best bang fer th' buck Can't Post

Hello, + BB (If I may be so bold),
Sorry, I'm a bit out of it, as I currently have a 12-14 hour work day six days a week. Thank you immensely for your tutorial.
After doing some research, and a wee dram of thinking, heh, I've decided that one of these (cassie) units might suit me for as far as the scope of what I want to achieve. To be sure, they have their limitations, as well as benefits.
Of course, it's all about what [universially] works for you, just like anything else. Quite frankly, we could be discussing the same wonders and defecits of fishing lures or cough supressants...
I do have one question, if anyone would be so kind: What would be the most ideal configuration..? I'm looking to produce (approx.) 30 min. fiction videos with "crappy bluebox" (and other) effects. I do have an XL1 NTSC cam, and don't mind outputting to VHS. I've seen that each unit has several "packages", and want the most suitable model for the job, but a low price is a factor as well. Later, perhaps, I can upgrade or move on to better things. Can anyone assist me..? Quite frankly I can't tell the difference between a PRESTIGE, AVIO or KRON, as they all have at least three options. The DV/DVD option is somewhat confusing to me as I can't seem to find it thoroughly explained..! Any and all help would be most appreciated. Hey, this is what this forum is for, isn't it..?
p.s. Hey, BB, you live in Boston, eh..? I live right north of you in Portland, Maine...

Hello,
To clarify your question - the two Casablanca systems available as new units are the AvioDVD (with 4 different configurations as you pointed out) and the Prestige. The Kron/KronPLUS continues to be supported via software but is no longer manufactured.
The four options on the AvioDVD are
Avio editor (modular unit with future upgrade to DV and/or DVD
Avio editor with DV (firewire in/out)
Avio editor with DVD (analog only - S video/Phono-RCA)
Avio editor with DV and DVD
Contrasted with the Avio, the Prestige offers a faster proccessor, front and rear inputs, mic input, and removable HDs - DVD burner is standard as is DV.
You are welcome to email me directly if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Chet
