can any other dvd burners be used other than pioneer units?

I believe their software for Arabesk and the firmware updates are only good for Pioneer burners. With that said, you can put in almost any model that they offer. I know some folks who took out their AO3 or AO4 and replaced it with an AO8 - which allows them to burn +s and -s.

For me, I'm only interested in the DVD-Rs - in the last two years, I've only had two complaints with compatibility; and, one of the couples had another DVD player in their home that played it fine. Although, I think most new DVD players will play both pretty well - I suppose it gives you a little more flexibility being able to do both.

ya thanks just what i thought, Yes I will be putting in an 08 for the dual layer option, I need more than 2 hours and at the reduced quality just looks ok, and i have to compress the audio, which I have never heard the difference to the uncompressed not sure what the difference is there owell, at least a pioneer 08 is going fo rlike 84 bucks so thats not bad, BUT the DL disks are like 10 bucks each ouch!!
