dvd hookup Can't Post

I have just purchased a TDK # AID + 440 dvd internal computer recorder that burns both formats, @ Best Buys for $299.less $30 mail in rebate for a total of $269,if I get the rebate. Has anyone used this burner yet what did you think of it. I could have also pickup the Sony dru 500ax for $249 ,the specs look to be the same except the soft ware.
I can down load digital video directly from dv tapes and the cam head from my Canon GL1 and from my Sony trv9 cams into a video file in the computer.
What I cant do is come from the avio svhs out(no dv on avio) through the cams to have the camera convert it to digital out via the fire wire.
Can these cams do this or am I doing somthing wrong?
I also tried installing a Pinnacle studio 400 which has svhs in and out via the printer port , can not get it to do anything it worked when I had windows 98 but not on my xp.
Look for xp updates on their website and could not find no updates.
So if I can't go through the cams or studio 400 any suggestions on how to get the svhs in the computer at a reasonable price.
