external h/d Can't Post

Ok, I'm no expert on the techie side of this, that's why I have an avio. Two questions. I have option to buy a avio loaded with every software available, but with a 20gb hd for about 950.00. No dvd burner. Or, I can get a Kron with dvd burner with 2.5? and some software 40GB hd. Which would you take?
The external h/d question is. How does this work? Is it just a h/d that you run your firewire to and it stores the video. Thanks for the help and excuse the ignorance.

First off, I'm not sure how the external drives work.
It depends on whether or not you want DVD capabilities. If that isn't important to you then go with the Avio and purchase a large internal HD - they are rather easy to upgrade - but, if there is a warranty, it will break it. Also, I believe Seagate HD's are recommended. You can safely add up to an 80 GB HD and the system will be very stable. For larger drives, you should upgrade the memory to 256 MB.
Software options are important and if you can get all the software on the Avio, then that sounds like a great deal. If you go this route, you can at least upgrade your Avio to a DVD burner later.
If I can help further, please feel free to email me.

I went with the avio. I upgraded it to 120gb hard drive. I bought this unit from a dealer, who is upgrading it for me, so I hope the warranty stays in tact. Thanks for your help.

I dont know about the Kron but changing the hard drive is very simple in the Avio. Yes it will void your warranty (which is only 1 year) and you also must purchace the software to upgrade to the 80 gig drive. I have tried several brands of drives and found the best 80 gig for the money is the IBM/Hitachi aval for about $80. at newegg.com . If the Avio is truly fully loaded with all the software as you say for 950. thats one heck of a deal! just make sure that it is not the demo versions.

The dealer is putting in the hard drive for me and will edit-ready when I pull it out of the box. It is for all of the software, so I couldn't pass it up. I paid an extra $189.00 for the 120hd
