macrosystem pricing	Can't Post

Can anyone explain why the Macrosystem products go up in price from year to year, while everything else goes down in price. IE the new Imac with 20 inch screen is under 2 grand, a Solitaire is almost 5 grand

inquiering minds wan to know?

Same reason some videographers charge $500, while others charge $5,000 Wink

One would think some one in your position, having 3 Cassie units (as you stated), would be well aware and understand their software pricing. Further, one like yourself who mainly likes to "bash" their products as you've proven over and over in the past, why on earth would you now have 3 of their editors? Care to explain?

Yes, they killed themselves and because of doing this, have released more new software in the last 2 years than ever before. Not to mention, released 3 editing systems (Solitaire, Claro, Louvre), with a 4th released in Germany (the Enterprise) and a 5th device coming soon, their HDV recorder.

As far as software releases, in addition to what they just released before the holidays, they also have Photo Studio 2, DVD Arabesk 3, Columbus and Big Maps software, Deluxe Titler 3D, Smart Edit 5, Object Tracer, Filter Pack, Border X, Title Bax etc. - all of which were either recently released, or will be in the next couple of months.

Care to actually explain where you gather your information from? All of these products and releases would seem to be an unusual move (if even feasible) from a company that is "dead" and laughed at as you say, don't you think?

Not at all; I think it's great, as others who read this can sort out the claims and make their own conclusions.

Hello Lee,

Actually I would like to point out that Macrosystem hardware has decreased in price over the years, while increasing in value. When you look at the standard features set in today's OS and the included software packages - it would be hard to say that we have increased prices over the years.

Now - our prices may not match the shelf (or internet) prices of some of our computer based competition. But there is two things I would like to point out:

1. Return on Your Investment
2. Price versus Cost

I continue to believe that Casablanca customers receive a great return on their Casablanca units - I hear it every day how their Casablanca has enabled them to successfully produce their videos, whether professionals, educators or hobbyists.

With many other lower priced editors you may find out later that your initial 'savings' came at the expense or little or no support after the sale (how much was that service contract?). Our support receives accolades from customers. And this is from folks who bought their system recently as well as 4 years ago - we _continue_ to provide the service that our customers need and deserve.

At an event in Florida last weekend, one of our customers put it this way "give me a project that you also give to another editor and they can use whatever they want, whichever popular system they want and I will have my project completed, turned over to the client and counting my money even before they would be done."

In closing I totally respect those who would choose a particular editing solution based on differing needs. I do, however, take exception with someone who might mock a tool they either know little or nothing about

By the way - Casablanca _is_ used in professional applications around North America. From live satellite trucks to NFL stadium support; from posting of indie films to weekly programs (Fox Sports Network for example); Wedding Videographers to Corporate/Industrial producers.

Bottom line: do your homework, research your tools carefully to ensure they match your needs, your business model and your budget, make certain you will have the resources and support you will need to successfully use the technology tools you purchase and best of luck in your video pursuits!

Hi Chet,
Thank you for responding, I have enjoyed my Cassie/Kron+ units. I use them all the time, the simplicity is unbelieveble, I remember the first time I saw the unit in San Diego(WEVA) and could not believe my eyes.

I guess what upsets me the most is the trade in value that is given to the units. My Kron is now worth less then $1200.00 dollars. My upgrade to Kron + cost $1400.00, which in hind site was a mistake.
Yes I know technology improves by leaps and bounds, but paying $4000.00, plus who knows how must for additional software is just a little bit too much.
Have you seen the new Apple Imac, this thing smokes, and its easy too use, and its under $2000.00.
If I could pay 2000.00 to upgrade to a solataire I probably would, but not $4000.00.

I still complete projects on my Kron, and I use my Cassie for live event back up recordings,I just wish the Kron did a better job on the dvd's.

Maybe in the future, but not at this time

Lee,

If an upgrade to Solitaire does not now benefit you or fit your business model I totally respect that decision.

I would like to point out though that I believe there is _no other manufacturer_ in our industry that offers customers such a hardware trade-in option. What other company will take a unit that you purchased some 4 years ago and give you a decent discount towards a new unit -- by the way this trade-in/upgrade program also includes free transfer of software you may have purchased with your original unit. For some folks that could be several hundreds or even thousands of dollars additional value!

The other point with our trade-in program is that I encourage you to look at the value your unit has provided you these past years.

I must add from a personal perspective that there is a benefit from purchasing an editing system where BOTH hardware and software are inclusive.

My friend had a problem with what he thought was his software. The software company advised him to contact the hardware company . The hardware company told him it is a software problem...then the software company sent him back to the hardware company.....who in turn sent him back to the video card company...who then sent him back to....well ya get the picture.

On every occasion where I had a perceived problem (always turned-out to be a user situation) MSUS promptly called me back. They were patient and understanding when I was new to the product

Oh! I forgot to mention.....my friend got nailed a fee by the software company applied to his VISA CARD. MSUS includes phone and e-mail support at no charge. Never a problem nor a frustrated service person at MSUS.

You also have to take into account the learning curve is very,very small with the MSUS OS. I can produce excellent video projects in a shorter time and receive my money faster as a result.

Just my opinion. I also respect all others.
