The deal is this: Some digital camera sensors are smaller than the exposed area on a standard (full) frame of 35mm film. The result is that less area is use to create the image and also less lens glass is involved. Hence, the mentioned 1.6 crop factor for the 20D as it is not "full frame". Basically, your field of view is less wide and wider glass is necessary for group photos up close. Where full-frame cameras can use 24mm lens to get a group shot, I needed to get a 16mm wide angle ($$$) to do the same. You might think "just step back till they all fit", but this then requires a bigger light kit -- and still might not work in a tighter venue. It is a trade off though.... my 200mm telephoto acts more like a 300mm. There are full-frame DSLRs out there. I am eyeing a 5D, if $3K falls on my head. Why? I am happy with my 16mm for wides, but sure would love to see a more striking effect from the 15mm fisheye on a FULL frame. Does that help some?? Jeko Sony VX2100's, iRivers, M-audio 24/96, Canon 5Ds/20Ds (and too much glass), Vegas6, PhotoShop CS3, Lightroom, etc.
