Re: [Brackish] New Gary Fong image program: You don't even need a color-corrected monitor! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've never used Bullseye before but after what I saw I definitely think it's worth the investments. You can color correct your photos in seconds just by clicking on anything neutral in the picture. You can achieve same effects in PS but anything that can save the time and has this price tag works for me. I decided to wait till I get my gear before investing into any software.

Re: [Xray] New Gary Fong image program: You don't even need a color-corrected monitor! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've recently opened my eyes to the old "Photoshop is EVERYTHING" mentality. I'm now realizing there are other programs that can actually perform several functions better. ACDSee 8 Pro was the first.

Regarding having your monitor calibrated for print- they suggest at least a 6500k temp...if not warmer 5400k. I used to have a LaCie Electron Blue monitor with hardware calibrator. When I calibrated my monitor for "print standard" I was miserable...the whites looked orange to me..wayyyy too warm. But supposedly it gives you the most accurate color when comparing your actual physical prints in daylight. I get admirable results calibrating my monitor to "MY" liking and not paying a lick of worry to imbedded color profiles. Worrying about accurate color in video is enough for me (and simpler). The whole group of concepts surrounding print/monitor color is still baffling to me and I even purchased a book on it to understand it better. Crazy

Re: [Brackish] New Gary Fong image program: You don't even need a color-corrected monitor! [In reply to] Can't Post

After seeing it demo'd on his tour, I bought Bullseye III to allow me to readily correct JPEGs as needed. BullZeye III can correct WB & exposure simply on a JPEG. I've tested it on some old images (quick and dirty test using old point and shoot camera's images and a few over-exposed images from more recent events) and it was very successful.

It was key for me because I no longer need to shoot in RAW now that I can quickly adjsut JPEGs with BullZeye. It is a huge $ saver and time saver, as memory cards go much further & image post-processing is much faster.

Now, no more shooting in RAW for me. I actually just got it last week so I can NOT yet attest to the ability to batch work, but Gary indicated that it can run batches.

Now that I'm not really using RAW, things are faster overall in my processing.

Is it pretty easy to learn? How much was III?

It was demo'd in front of me at his show. Even I can learn when shown how.... but steps were very simple.

Basically, four available steps available:
1. Color balance - in that you would click black, white or grey points to remove color casts. Can be done without calibrated monitor.
2. Tonal Range - Similarly select darkest, lightest and mid-tone points to set black-, white-, and grey-points. Can be done without calibrated monitor.
3. BCS (bright, contrast, saturation) - Sliders to adjust to your preference (calibrated monitor probably better here)
4. Color correction by hues - a bit more involved.

It also converts to B/W or Sepia.

Price at his show was reduced a bit to $100. I think it will be available to public after his tour (March 06), so visit Gary Fong website to check availability and see street price...

Dunno yet...
I'll try to reply again once I can tinker with it more.

OK, it took a while but I can finally confirm that it will process in batch. In my own defense, it was not clearly visible and the software tutorial (web based tutorial) doesn't work.

Alas, it is the only items that require you to use the file menu.... "ProcessQ" runs things in batch (after properly establishing the desired parameters and saving them).

It was pretty quick running too.

I will second Gary Fong's products. They are affordable and have done nothing but improve my images/workflow. We are implementing his philosophy regarding becoming producers of fine art wedding books and it is working. Took our average photo sale from $1500 to $4000 and we are profiting more.

Bullseye is a great product and a timesaver. I only wished it would rotate my vertical shots for me but I can live with that.
