Same with photo. The only thing they might ask is film or digital.

Brack,

So, are you offering photo services as well?

With video, we almost never have had clients inquire about
equipment (e.g. what kind of camera, lights, etc.) at all.
They just book based upon if they like the demo.

Was wondering if this is the same with photo?

No one ever asks.

Hi, Julie. Haven't seen you around the photo forum too much
recently.

So, no questions like "how many megapixels" or "Canon or Nikon"?

Do they ask if you use a flash? Or do they just assume you will use
flash?

Haven't been posting or doing much of anything the last few weeks. My friend and business partner did all the selling with the photography. No one ever asked her about equipment. They just wanted to know what they were getting for the money.

Do they ask if it's 35mm or medium format?

Never.

Do they ask if you have backup?

Once

Any questions about your use of flash?

Never

How about you? Have you started offering it?

Yes. However, I've got way too much video stuff on my plate right now to finish up and I still haven't finished up some of the photo things I need to on my end. Plus, still not 100% settled on my package offerings. I likely will have to wait until sometime in late January or February before I can spend 2-3 days to get caught up and better organized with my photo stuff.

Re: [Brackish] Clients inquire about your equipment? [In reply to] Can't Post

Haven't really had them ask about specifics. But more than one asked about backup equip which I thought was interesting b/c only occasionally did we get that question about video.

BUT since we don't have a lot of photo samples to show - we have been pulling out the camera bodies and lenses (especially the big tele) and showing them to Clients as proof that we take it seriously and have made the necessary investments. We didn't just go out and drop a few bucks on a point and shoot one day, deciding, "Hey, what the heck, let's shoot some pick-tures..." - which is what some photographers have suggested and I can only imagine what they are saying...

It seems to do the trick. We just booked another photo only job. A freakin' $2000 package. Do you know how long it took us to get to $2K wiith video???!!! In less than 6 months, we booked a $2K photo job... and that's without an album included. Blows my mind!

Anyway - it doesn't hurt to have it sitting out on the desk as reassurance that you are legit.

Jenn,

I wrote about a similar experience earlier this year. I started doing video at the end of 1989. It wasn't until 2006 that I received $3000 for shooting and editing a wedding.

This year was the first year I hit the bridal shows and started shooting on my own. My third wedding out of the blocks ... $3000!

Anyone getting into photography should know it's not easy, but once you learn and know what you're doing ... well ... let's just say that my business cards on order has NO reference to video.
