Re: [Brackish] Why photographer has all-Flash site? Huh?? [In reply to] Can't Post

bad idea. Normally caused by laziness and ignorance. A lot of photogs will buy template sites and galleries in flash because everybody else does - you know, like having blogs Wink. Flash galleries do have one advantage in making it harder to steal pix but I don't like them, apart from Adobe CS's gallery which is quite quick and simple.

oops! the one I've been wanting is an $800 flash template.

This effects the dial up people? I thought that flash helped with that.

I know that with high speed some of those flash sites still take 20 seconds to load with that nice little percentage bar saying "Loading........."

I usually just go somewhere else at about 50%

And then half of them just have vague images or thumbnails to click on without any real menu system or explanation of where a click goes. You have to remember what each little icon does or mouse over them every time to see where they MIGHT go. Grrrr.......MadMadMad

That's another drawback. They are all flash-bang and not user friendly. I saw one yesterday that wasn't clear even how to get past the banner page into the site. Even the best templates are let down by the chance of seeing that template used on another site. The first time is interesting but when you see it again it cheapens the impact and makes both sites seem amateurish.

Unless I can find some reason to change I'm guessing I'll leave mine where it's at. Mine is essentially an on-line brochure and something for me to refer my clients to. Are there couples who find it to be too slow? Might be, but I don't know that for sure.

Being in a small town my goal hasn't been to reach the ultimate in search engines ... but rather just another way to offer up a gallery with pricing info. It's a template and didn't cost much, but still works for me.

If you want to see what it looks like you're more than welcome to shoot me a PM, but I won't post it for non-members to view.

They look very nice, and secure their data better.

However, there is another drawback in that google and yahoo web-crawlers can't properly read all the content in your page. This means that your site text that could help you in search ranking may not be found.

Not sure what you mean by this, Jeko. "

With the flash, it is more difficult for visitors to swipe the graphics/images and such on the site.

True...everything is embedded in the flash site.

But I have one word: "printscreen" Cool

Did I say "impossible to steal graphics"...

But you are correct. There are other means to get to the graphic source too, but the "Save image as..." isn't there.

The more important factor to me is that everything is embedded, and that kills search engine robots from seeing it properly. Their ranking on searches never reaches its full potential.

Another disadvantage of heavy Flash usage, is that the search engine bots can't recognize Flash content. So any text that is inside a Flash page will not get indexed. Most Search Engine Optimization specialists caution that too much Flash can keep your site from ranking well with Google and others.
