On the photo end, most amatuers ask "How many pixels in that thing?" I often say "Not sure. Wanna crack it open and count 'em??" (but I am inherently a smart-alec). The more knowledgeable ones ask about settings for situations, or maybe even advice on things. I pressume they can read a camera's model number, are decipher what lenses are on hand. Other proffesional photographers may make chat about their shoot philosophies and how we are different or similar.

Your right though -- few ever asked about video as much. A few young guys that were "getting into it" were the only ones that ever showed clear interest. This might be because we are noticeably busier when filming, and possibly a fear of being recorded while interupting the videographer.
