Well I finially got it and it was worth the wait. This lens really does ROCK. I'll post images soon, but for those looking for the right lens on the long side, this is it. I love the IS. Canon has a very good thing here!

Now, why did you have to say that... at this point I definitely have to leave it on the list. Wink

Tell me about performance in low light (say back of dim church to front)....

Can you compare it to non-IS too??

Nope, I had the f/4 version that was great for outside. I couldn't hold the thing steady to save my life at 200mm and it was still hard at 70mm. I always had to use the tripod. I sold the f/4 on FM two weeks ago and just got the 2.8 IS version. I have a wedding this Sunday as a second shooter, if all goes well, I'll have shots for you Monday morning!

Photo's are up. All I can say is this lens was a life saver. I'm posting a 100% crop from the ring exchange, a 50% from the image and a reduce entire image so you can see overall image. More from the wedding can be viewed on my webiste.

www.jessereich.com

Of course click on the Wedding option, go to Portfolio, Wedding 1 and all of the "ceremony" shots are from the back balcony of the church. All shot handheld at 1/15th F/3.5 ISO 800.

100% Crop:

50% Crop

Reduced size original image:

Here is a location shot so you can see my perspective:

At 800 in the dark setting you do have noise. However with the correct post processing, the images can look great. Due to the style of Photojournalism Black and White works great. Many actually add Grain to the images...

All in all I'm very pleased with this lens. Today, Saturday, I have another wedding that I'll need the 200mm IS for. WHOO HOO!

we have a 24-70L and a 70-200IS on 20D.s they are terrific lenses and have been very reliable. The 1.6 extender works vey well with the 70-200 for wildlife. enjoy

Jesse, the 70-200 was my favorite lense! I miss it. I returned it at B&H along with my 20D towards the purchase of the 1D mkII. I'm starting to think I should have kept the 20D and the extra glass. Unsure

Or sell my MkII for one. The only thing I don't like about the 5D is the plastic CF door and lack of environmental sealing. The MkII is an all-weather tank!

We've had ours on a 20D for about 9 months...fantastic lens! Other lens is a 24-70 on another 20D body. 58- flashes on both. Vey satisfied with performance.

FYI, Canon has a rebate program for this lens and other products which is good for purchases through this Sunday, Jan. 15th. The lens is listed on Amazon.com for as little as $1699, and if you buy it along with a camera body you'll get $100 back on the lens and up to $200 back on the camera. Time to blow some of this year's equipment budget...

P.S. Thanks for the sample images. My wife and I are seriously considering buying the lens.
