A few photos from the New Zealand Alps Can't Post

Just got back from 2 weeks in Australia and New Zealand. 4 days were up in the NZ Alps on the South Island. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful country. I had a small speck of dust on my lens which I have to go back and remove on a few of these.

A have a bunch more posted here:

Nope, that pic was straight out of the camera. Delayed exposure, 30-45 seconds if I recall. The place was amazing. More stars than I have ever seen. 1000's. Mars plain as day, sattelites tracking the sky at night. Really amazing.

I used a Canon 10d with a Tamron 17-35 2.8

Dude it was crazy, it was very sobering to realize if you make one mistake and slip you are dead. Does a lot for personal honesty on what you are capable of and what you are not. How about this one:

The decent was the real bear, 3000 feet down on steep inclines. If you look at the top left of this photo you can see the hut we stayed in, this was about 25% of the way down. It was the most intense hiking I had ever done.

Ah luckily I gave up on the wedding vid. business last yearWink In the process of going through a divorce as well so all of a sudden its like I am 13 again! Or actually maybe closer to 5....playing in a crevasse, swinging around on ropes and stuff was definitely reminiscent of my childhood I have to admit. Now on the 29 hour plane ride home my knees felt more like 34....or probably 50!Crazy

Hey Jordan,

I took a bunch more. It was an amazing experience on so many levels. We spent 3 days in Australia as well teaching for these guys:

It was incredible. Everytime I travel internationally I feel like I grow a ton. You let me know when your ready to go...I am getting pretty close to just quitting work and taking a year or 2 and going backpacking through Europe. I picked up a few hitchhikers in NZ that were doing just that. Here are some more pics:

Seriously, keep a lookout for a phone call. I'd love to just escape for an undetermined amount of time to go photographing around Europe. I'm considering studying abroad for a semester or two as well.

oh, and you should get some prints made up! www.mpix.com has reasonable rates and the prints are fantastic! I may want to buy a few....

Dude you should do it. Traveling is the most healthy thing in the world. It was so awesome. We were sitting up in that hut listening to the avalanches with people from all over the globe, it was so bad ass. You need to do it. We'll talk about it.

I am trying to figure out which ones to print up. I have used mpix before and been very happy.

Great pics, Bill. I live those night shots. So clean and clear.

Any friends or family that come back from NZ always rave about it. Not just the beauty but the people as well.

Re: [DGates] A few photos from the New Zealand Alps [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree. Everything about New Zealand was awesome! Except Christchurch, kind of a dirty typical city feel to it. The only cool thing there was it is the route to get to Antarctica, so there were big C130's at the airport with skis on then and stuff, you know things you don't see everyday. I highly recommend visiting the country, so beautiful and yes the Kiwi people were among the nicest I have ever met in the world, very genuine and peaceful.
