A question of ethics Can't Post

If you were out shooting stock photos and saw a medical emergency, what would you do? Ignore it, take a shot from where you were, take several shots, move to get the best shot, swap lenses to get the very best shot, swap lenses and exposure to get the "perfect" shot and swap memory cards when you ran out of space on the first one?

Re: [Colvin ADTR] A question of ethics [In reply to] Can't Post

I've been somewhat in this situation when a groom passed out, when a grandmother fell, and when someone had a heart attack at a reception, and my first instinct was to put the camera down and see if anyone needed help. Lucky for them, but not for me b/c I probably could have made some $$$ if I had caputred it better.

Unless there's something you could be doing to help...why not take pictures? Nothing wrong with trying to profit from tragedy...it how every journalist, newpaper, TV news channel, lawyer, ambulance driver, doctor, hospital, etc, make their living. Journalism relies on photo+video to sell the story.

But for stock photos, I don't know. I wouldn't have an ethics problem with it, but it seems it would be difficult to simply stage a shot on a budget, and not have it look bogus. Otherwise, I say do whatever pays the bills. If you don't, someone else will. Good luck!

Funny how quickly I went from do-good videographer to money counting photog Blush. The only reason I didn't swap lenses was because I had only taken out the 50mm to try. Very sharp. You can see 1 of the pics on myspace.

OMG! How sick am I? I thought I was pushing the limits of taste with the caption but when I looked again and saw where the National Lottery logo was pointing, I wanted to swap it for "It could be you". Sick, sick.Unsure

LaughLaughLaugh Damn! That was the first thing tragic I saw in the picture!! Laugh

There are always ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars parked out in front of my building, or car accidents...especially along the metro-rail line. A couple days ago an ambulance was picking up a lifeless body off the bench in the metro-rail station across the street, and I didn't even get my camera out this time. Once I get over this stupid video backlog, I'm gonna go be more pro-active towards photographing events downtown, since I can beat the local news crews even on foot.
