Accolade of Excellence Award for Photography Can't Post

Hello all - just wanted to share this Press Release issued by WPPI in regards to an award that I received for a print that I entered in their recent contest. needless to say I was thrilled to have won anything. As some of you may not know I added photography to my video business a little over two years ago with awesome results. I know many want to do the same, so I thought I would share this good news. Thanks for taking a peek Wink

Natalie

Congrats from me, too, Natalie.

Say, I was wondering if you could pass on a little how things
have gone since you've added photography a couple years
ago? Is there much interest in photo/video combo deals?
Is there greater interest in photography than video?

Thanks B!

Since I have added photography in addition to my video I have increased my video sales and the over all sales are too wonderful now! I do offer a all inclusive package, but most choose their coverage ala carte - I do discount by $200 when they choose both photo and video - of course I have figured that out when I price my packages. I have also found that I am selling video to couples who are adament that they do not want video. As an example of the increase in over all sales, just yesterday I booked a client who marked that they were only interested in photo - I sent home a CD that had 4 video samples on it as well as a photo montage to share with mom. Of course they looked at the video stuff too, came in and booked a $7,000 package with me. So:

1. I got a video sale that would never have contacted a videographer in my price range or would have blown me off as too expensive
2. Sold a decent photo package - which ends up as less work than the video we have to shoot and edit. Gotta love it :)

I am presenting a seminar on this topic at WEVA next month for anyone who is interested - adding photo has not hurt it has helped! I will also say because we had a great name and reputation already for video I do not see a greater interested in photo over video, I just see increased interested in a new product. I do not promote one over the other. I see it as opportunity to sell more video!

It's always funny how when they get their proofs their first question is when will the video be done?

Hope this helps

Natalie

Not sure how you meant that. Have you noticed that they have more
eagerness to see their video versus their photos? And have you noticed
any difference in their reaction to seeing their photos versus seeing
their video?

And how much longer do they have to wait to get their video as
compared to the wait time for their photos?

I meant that for many who did not want video - all of a sudden the video is super important AFTER the wedding. I think the reactions are the same and different. Most couples are "jonesing" to see anything after the day is so quickly gone. Photos evoke a different kind of emotion/reaction than video. It's important in my opinion that they both be equally good for their respective mediums - one should not be far superior to the other.

As to the wait time - It's about an equal wait time to get the final product - although proofs are ready about 2 weeks after the wedding.

When your are drunk at a party it is fun to tell your buddies how much fun you had...when you can see it on video it takes the "fun" bragging out of it because it shows what REALLY happened in all of its gory glory Cool
