Another photoshop question Can't Post

How do you get hair detail when trying to cut an image from a photo using the magnetic tool? Or better question,,, what is the best way to cut an photograph of a person out of a photo and get all the fine detail including hair?

Shane,
That really depends on the photo (background specifically).

Fastest/easiest way is Filter/Extract (with short hair it will work without a problem).

If on the other hand you are dealing with a photo of the bride standing in front of the hay stack with her hair flowing in the air… I only have two words for you… good luck! :)

This will require more work with duplicating channels, changing contrast, levels and paint brush, before creating and extracting a selection.

Do you have an example (or something close) you can show us?

Selections are one of the most challenging tasks in Photoshop.

Marcin

Thanks Marcin, that is exactly what I was looking for... I sat in on a seminar with Louisa at Video 07 and she explained that same thing but I just did not follow it. I took notes but when I got home I was just lost. I tried to make it work but could not get there. Your explanations is great. Thanks again.
