As Alan said, it's all about angles. This is why you're contantly adjusting it. Last time I ever used one was on my Maxxum 9 in the 90's. I have no use for them.

Why is that?

BERNARD: Around these parts, you hear the name Posner quite a bit.

BERNARD: No foolin'? What's your name?
CINDY: Up.
BERNARD: Up? That's an odd name. What's your last name?
CINDY: Yours. Up yours!

I don't often shoot fish in the lake; window glare is remedied by stepping sideways a foot; blue skys can be pumped with photoshop. Photoshop didn't exist when I used with polarizers. Plus you lose two stops which sucks.

Polarizers don't help at all with skin or clothing? Maybe
to cut down glare off a white dress?

I just had another thought. Would a polarizer
do anything for reflections off a person's eyeglasses?

You don't want to shoot people through a polarised filter Smile It could infact help reduce eyeglass glare if the angles were proper (i.e. sun about 90 degrees to subject), but your skin tones would suffer far more than any benefit would afford. pLus if you got used to relying on a filter to remove glare you'd be screwed without the filter. Get accustomed to lifting glasses up a couple centimeters behind the ears to remove glare.

I didn't know polarizer messes with skin tones! What does it do to them?

I remember it caused tanned/dark-skinned people to look terrible.

They're not for shooting people IMO.
