Anyone try Metallic paper? Can't Post

Cool on B&W images, but not a big fan of it on color images. Does anyone really use it?

Re: [Jenn M] Anyone try Metallic paper? [In reply to] Can't Post

Just recently tried it out ... provided it free for one of my brides that was ordering lots of prints.

I hated the look, my wife and daughter hated it, the client hated it.

Having said that ... some phototgraphers say they really like it, but my understanding is that it is hardly ordered by their clients.

To me, it's just one more thing to worry about so I'll not have them available.

Through Mpix?

Thought about checking it out on specific prints, but it specifically says "Not recommended for portraits". I would say that only specific images might look good with it.

MPix, Candid and WHCC.

Yeah - it's bad for skin tones. Has a yellow tint. It has kind of a cool effect from across the room. Almost 3D, but up close, I don't like it at all. Seems kinda hokey. More like a tool on reserve for a specific effect, like you said.

Yes, through mpix. I tried both portraits and candids. I'm sure it's a personal taste issue, but I'll never order them again.

Do you offer/like any of the textured papers?

I like the canvas/linen look and the pebble texture... though coming from video, I know they are a pain in the butt to scan and try to put on DVD, not that that is the first thing on a Client's mind when they order a print.

Honestly Jenn ... I am doing my very best to keep my business as simple for me and them as I can. I will only offer the matte paper ... and as I stated in another post ... could care less if I ever sell another print.

My album choices are going to be limited to no more than three companies, but again ... I'm not looking to sell albums either.

I dig. and I think the brides actually appreciate that approach as well. They're overwhelmed by all it already. Too many options can really confuse them.

All the metalic prints that I've received from Mpix look great and in fact that's what we do the most of. It depends on the scene though, if it has a lot of colors or potential for a 3d sort of effect (either foregound or back ground out of focus) it enhances that.

So far everyone has liked them a lot... I even order my personal prints in metalic...

I've never had problems with the skin tones on metalic paper from Mpix. Of course we edit all the photo's before uploading and view on a HD monitor so the colors are usually correct or we correct them and what we see on the print is what we saw on our HD monitor. However, those sort of pictures are usually just 4 by 6 or 5 by 8, anything else we use matt finish. We've done some of the canvas portrates too which look really fantastic!

Maybe it's b/c I like a warmer image so I tend to warm it up with editing, but so far the images I tried came back with golden skin gones - yellowish, almost jaundice-looking.

Funky looking. Wouldn't use it.

Unless that's the effect your are looking for.
