At the risk of sounding waaaay stupid... explain Lightroom to me

Like I said - at the risk of sounding stupid - I figured I better ask this question here before in a photog forum. I can't figure this out - what is the benefit to using a program like Lightroom over the Adobe Bridge. I was reading that CS3 is going to be released, probably sometime late spring with a new and improved version of Adobe Bridge. But then, I swear I read that CS3 was going to be packaged w/ this wonderful Lightroom. Both seem to have the beta versions ending simultaneously. There seem to be several programs to do the same thing: Camera Raw, Phase One, Lightroom... and then there's the Canon processing program and Adobe Bridge. Am I wrong in thinking they all do pretty much the same thing in different ways? What makes Lightroom so much more special. I went to the website, read some stuff, watched a few tutorials... and it all looked good to me, so I showed it to Brian, and he said, "So why do we need that? We have Adobe Bridge..." I didn't know how to answer. Either I was brainwashed by the propaganda, or there really is a reason I need it. Just like with video, this is the crap I have so little patience for. I just want to shoot and make it look pretty. Any help or clarification greatly appreciated. EDIT* In case you haven't figured it out - this is Jenn. That PIA was signed in and I didn't realize it - I swear I signed in, too. hmph Brian M ________________________________________________ Photographer & Videographer
