Can I connect a reflex digital camera to my PC and shoot to my HDD? Can't Post

Here are some newby questions. If I got a reflex megapixel camera and connected it to my PC will I be able to use my computer's HD to shoot the pictures to instead of the camera's removable data storage? Also, can these new digital cameras be McGyver'ed for shooting video directly to my PCs harddrive? I want to turn a megapixel camera / PC combination into a HD video devise. Any suggestions?

yes. canon and nikon have their own tethered capture programmes and there are third party options. Have a look at nikonians or dpr for the names.

nikon capture 4, maybe capture one pro. TBH it isn't something I have needed yet so I can't remember the names but I know it is possible.
