Canon 20D - Lowest Price with best lens Can't Post

I want to purchase a Canon 20d but I do not want the cheapo lens that sometimes comes with the camera. What lens should I purchase for general shooting. Looking at keeping the cost down.

grab the tamron xr di lens 2.8 f 28-75 great general purpose lens it is only 370usd.
the 28-300 3.5-6.3f lens is 480.

rangefinder mag did a great write up on the 4 tamron pro lenses this month comparing them to the heavier top end L series canon lenses.

i own the 28-75 and it is my gem. I love the glass.

Tamron has a rebate going on right now through the end of the month ... has to be postmarked by May 15th??

I got the 28-75 and it had a $40 rebate.

I bought the 4-5.6 IS with my 20D. I'm just OK with the lens. Love the IS and the pics are excellent when shooting in lots of light but miss the fast glass when shooting in not so bright conditions. I have a 2.8 70-200 Sigma and really like the way fast glass gathers a bit more light. Chop and Scott might be on the right track with their choice of 28-75. I would just say lean toward the fastest and cleanest glass you can afford no matter what brand name is on the outside.

Re: [Dieps] Canon 20D - Lowest Price with best lens [In reply to] Can't Post

I need two more lens. I want something around a 16-35 or 18-55. Also, I need something that will take me to 200 mm. I would like a lens that is still 2.8 all the way through, but I can't really afford the cost of the IS lens by Canon. I hate the thought of using a tripod, but I may not have any choice.

Anyway, I know many photographers have all sorts of lens, but if I can purchase just two more I'll have plenty for my purposes.

On a seperate note ... I just purchased a new domain name and I'm in the process of getting my business changed over to include photography. It's going to be a challenge ... hopefully it will also be fun!

Good news on the new web site; I'll be looking forward to seeing it.

I purchased a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 after borrowing one at a college hockey game a few weeks ago. I got the 17-85 IS 4-5.6 with my 20D - great lens but not fast enough for a fast game in poorly lit ice rinks. Here is a web site that has reviews on this lens http://www.fredmiranda.com/...mp;cat=37&page=1.

I would like to tell you how it compares to the Canon 70-200L but, at three times the price, it was out of my league for now. The reviews are good and I think it does a nice job. I'll try to attach a couple pics but I'm not sure I can without a web site. If it doesn't work, PM me with your email address and I will ship you a couple shots.

Try this site for a few shots with my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 on a Canon 20D.

The first one was the first shot I took with the borrowed lens.

I was trying my new lens at a hockey tournament my son was playing in. Horribly dark rinks so it pushed the limits of the camera and lens. Very dark. ISO 1600. Mostly f2.8 or f4. Too dark to get the speed above 500.

The second pic was taken from 50' to 60' away. I'm guessing f2.8 and full zoom. The last two shots were taken through the glass at f2.8 or f4.0. I did a bit of PS work on #3 (can you tell where the "Dieps" comes from) with curves and unsharp mask. Still learning PS though. I pushed the speed on shot #4 (see the puck after a slap shot). If I can stop a puck, catching shot or two in most churches should be easy.

I just got the TC 1.4 to strench the zoom a bit farther. I loose one f-stop but that shouldn't matter for track and baseball shots. Here ya go.

Re: [ChopSueyChris] Canon 20D - Lowest Price with best lens [In reply to] Can't Post

I paid $675 USD. from digitalfotoclub.com. I actually found them on ebay and had great service. My friend that loaned me his copy bought his from http://hotbuyselectronics.com and says he had no problems with the purchase. They have the lens priced at $620.

Yes, all were shot @ 1600. I was going to try 3200 at one of the rinks tonight but ran out of time. All shots were auto focus. I think all were "One Shot" focus but there could have been a "servo" focus tossed in there someplace.

Lost the game 5-4 but the guys hung in there to a team that won their state divisional championship. It was a post season tourny so nobody took it too seriously and we celebrated the loss with some pizza and pops.
