Create DVD from VHS Can't Post

I'm looking to take old home movies on VHS or 8mm and edit them together and burn them on DVD's. Does anyone have recommendation on the software or hardware needed. All the critics choices are leaning toward Pinnacle sytems. I have had troubles with them in the past and wanted to know if any one has used their product and is happy with it or have another options and suggestions. Thanks

I use Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Encore for the DVD creation. I like the fact that both integrate well with Photoshop. The downside is, like any Adobe product, the learning curve is high and they are not cheap.

or you could buy a stand alone DVD recorder and just plug the vhs into it and record. They have combo vcr/dvd recorders for about 300 bucks. thats half what i'd charge you to do it.

I use the rca inputs on my camcorder. The camcorder then digitizes the footage via firewire.

I use one of those as well. I picked up an "LG" dvd recorder with a 250 gb hard drive. It will take RCA/SVHS and mini dv inputs. It works well when you want to do basic backups. You can trim or delete clips and it will add chapters every 5 minutes or you can specify where the chapters go. It will not allow you to accurately trim clips i.e down to one frame. It will allow you to record right to dvd as well for the quick and dirty backups.

If I wanted to load the films to my PC and edit the length and add titles, do you have some different recommendations. I know a lot the tape footage needs some clean up.

A cheaper and lighter way to go would be Adobe Premier Elements 2.0. Easier on the wallet....much lower learning curve. I'm not an Adobe ringer...but it's all I've used for the last four years. Wink

and it does not come with a poer supply, sold seperately, but draws power from 6 pin firewire cable. So unless you nee to use the 4 pin port, such as use ith a laptop, the poer supply is not needed.
