I've seen some of his work and I know that he's certainly very respected as both a photographer and teacher.

The name sounds a little familiar. Why do you ask?

There is a workshop that he is hosting this month that I am thinking about attending. There will be a lot of instruction plus images I will be able to put into my portfolio and use for the upcoming bridal show,, which I hope to be promoting photography.

I wouldn't hesitate to attend if it were in my area. Sounds like a great way to jump start your education.

I feel the same way. I spoke with the owner of the studio who is hosting him and we had a really good conversation. I think I would walk away with some ideas and skills to help me produce the type of photographs that would stand apart from a lot of photographers here. Have you seen his work? Apparently on his website... www.shootwithbeckstead.com , the photos he posts on that site are from his students.

David is a member of DWF, so that's how I'm familiar with his work. It's also how I'm familiar with the rave reviews from seminars.

I really need to find a seminar to attend even if I have to drive a bit. I'm starting to think I've taken myself as far as I can for now.

Knowing proper lighting techniques is what sets the great ones apart from the rest. You just can't get than by visiting forums.

If you go ... let us know how it worked out.

Beckstead is featured in Volume 2 of the WPPI Masters Collection DVD Documentary. He's one of the best and attending would be a great experience. Smile

Myself, I'd probably attend the Boutwell's.

Thanks Jason,
Yes, that Boutwell website is pretty amazing... understandably you would like his work, like you, he seems to be a master at colors. I have been thinking about which direction I am going in for '08. I do want photography to be a part of my plan for '08. I need a jumpstart on my photography career and this workshop might be a great start. I am also trying to figure out what to do about lighting at receptions. I am getting very tired of on camera lighting.. It is so flat and unflattering. But I am going to have a hard time investing in a light kit and take an expensive photography workshop. So have been thinking of using my NRG Varalux 100watt and my Frezzi 50watt lights clamped onto lightstands to throw light onto the dance floor while using my sony 10/20 on camera for fill light. But I am just not sure. I have a wedding this weekend so it might be a great time to give this setup a try... a couple of light stands sure would be a lot less expensive than a complete light kit.
