Film and slide scanner Can't Post

For those of you who scan negatives, what stand alone scanner do you use? (Not a flat bed scanner.)
I have several negatives and slides to scan, (actually 1000's) and I was wondering what scanner had
the ease of use and best software to handle that many.

Thanks in advance

Re: [Jack T] Film and slide scanner [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't used a dedicated film scanner, as I just use my flatbed for limited runs. But scanning large amounts of film is such a major PITA, I don't think I'm gonna even buy a dedicated film scanner. I saw this new service mentioned on the DGrin forums: http://www.scancafe.com/

For everying they're including with the standard price, it seems like an awesome deal! 19 cents per film frame.

Good luck!

You are so right, PITA. I probably have at least 2 thousand film strips and no telling how many slides to do.
I'll check em out

Thanks

mentioned on the DGrin forums:

I've never heard of DGrin forum. What kind is it? Amateurs with a bunch of flower shots? Pros?

Laugh Sometimes the amateurs with flower shots are snootier than the pro photographers. I've not been on Dgrin either but I had heard it was good.

LaughLaugh Yeah, pretty much. It's the digital photography forum sponsored by SmugMug picture hosting. There's a good mix of people on there...not dominated 99% by the wedding business like VU.Tongue I like how the forum is built, kinda like VU, and it's not super crowded. Two things I think that suck about dpreview, for example. I'm a total amateur, and it works for me, plus people actually post pictures on that forum, and it oddly doesn't revolve entirely around new gear, like some photo forums.

Except instead of flowers, I have pictures of cats, taken with my floppy disc camera. Cool
