First wedding of 2007 - 01.20.2007 Can't Post

First wedding of 2007! I had a 4 hour coverage wedding yesterday. I love these weddings, in and out in 4 hours!
I was also blessed with some awesome lighting before the ceremony, courtesy of a giant window, acted like a nice big softbox. More images can be seen on my blog at http://www.digitaliso.ca/blog
PS, my 17-55 F2.8 IS has officially died, I was holding out until I finished this wedding to send it in for repair, it was BRUTAL yesteray, the IS system was into the "turbo vibration" mode on almost every shot, and if I turned off IS, then the lens or the camera would freak out and the aperture kept flashing between 0 and F4 back and forth!!! WTF. I put up with it the best I could because my only other lens covering the same focal lengths was either the Kit lens or a 28-105 F3.5-4.5 lens, either of which I wanted to use.

Amazing!!! Love the shots on the stairs. We have a May wedding coming up with similar stairs. That gives us some ideas.

Love the bridesmaids shot too. Great job getting all the girls without any distracting shadows (which I'm sure most don't pay attention too) Lighting is beautiful. Love how they're all sort of serious. Was that intentional?

Thanks, yes it was intentional for them to all be serious.
Here is another version of that shot with smiles, I like the serious one better:

As for the lighting, I was blessed with a giant window directly behind where I was shooting, made for awesome light, didn't have to use flash or anything.

I like the serious one better too. Something very vintage about it. Although both are very nice. The 3rd from the left just wasn't giving it up.

You are just such a good photographer... I have my first paid wedding shoot in May... perhaps I could consult with you beforehand.

Yes, I will be alone, most likely... this is a business aquaintance who does DVD duplication for me. Her son is getting married and is on a tight budget. She has seen my video work and when I told her I was also offering basic photography, she signed up. The wedding is on a Sunday so I could still book the Saturday for a video. As I said, it will be basic but I would love to get a few of the shots like Toogy is getting. But all I will have is my 30D, my 580 flash, a tripod and a couple of lenses... that should do it but i have no umbrellas or multiple flashes.

What did you think of that photo training day you went on a few months ago? Did you learn anything?

If you decide to use multiple slaves later make sure you get yourself a radio (RF) trigger. Triggering slaves using your built-in flash, if Canon has that feature, is absolutely useless for weddings.

I use this one but there's lots out there. microsyncdigital.com

No, it sucked... it was basically a slide show by these guys who talked about there workshops around the world.. then they sent us out to take some pictures around the area while they stayed inside. I thought there would be some hands on looking at subjects to shoot... it was a waste of money and time.

The client received both versions of the photos, have not heard which one they prefer.
