Fugi S2 Pro or Canon 20d? Can't Post

I'm thinking of buying a camera to eventually do weddings with. I have narrowed my choices down to the Fugi S2 Pro and the Canon 20d.

Can anyone tell me which would be better for weddings and why?

Thanks,
AL

my cano digital rebel puts out a cleaner/less grainy pic than the s2.

my boss jsut bought the s3 and loves it, although there are issues with using his metz and nikkon flash units with it...

also the s3 is only 6.17true mp's. the 20d is 8mp. if you have no lenses for either... do some reading see what looks like will suit you more.

remember glen and i will sware up and down over our canons... and nikkon guys will do likewise, so pick and stick.

Thanks Chris,

The images I've seen from the S2 look great ,

I may just be leaning toward a newer camera.

Thanks,
Al

s2 is garbage to me. the latitude range SUCKS for it... even if you are one half stop over exposed it shows.

With the Canon's the latitude is much greater and giving, but still flawed as all digital is.

The S3 is "supposed" to handle over exposure much better than the s2.. But whoknows?

I have the 20D and LOVE it. I just got it two weeks ago. I have not shot a wedding with it yet. However I have shot a cheerleading competition. It held up really well in low light. I had the ISO at 1600 with no grain. The burst on the camera is terrific. I was able to get 21 photos before the camera was bogged down at full resolution. When I was reviewing the burst shots it was like watching a video (at about 5-8 frames a second). During the shoot I used the 1gig Kingston Elite Pro Compact Flash and the 512Mb Sandisk ultra II. The Kingston I thought responded better as far as reading and writting than the Sandisk. I also have a 1gig pqi hi speed compact flash card. This card came with the camera in a kit. I am have not used it (I don't trust the quality of it for shoots that matter) I might test it on my daughter soon. I am also looking at purchasing the Corsair Compact Flash when it is released on the market. I have heard from different sources that is suppose to be the fastest on the market. I know they have great RAM so hopefully they will not disappoint on the compact flash. That might have been more info than you needed.
If you get the 20D the kit lense is okay. However, you will need to get a telephoto zoom lense for weddings. The great thing about the 20D is its capabilities in low light. During a ceremony you will not be able to use a flash so that is important.

Bev, I only get maybe 2-3 weddings a year here in ny where the church says no flash...

So we double light everything.

but yes the news on the 20d is great.

for your "next" lens look into the tamron xi di 2.8f 28-75mm lens it runs about 330usd and is phenominal.

I am in the bible belt with alot of old churches and most minister are very persistent in no flashes during the ceremony. After the ceremony during the formals it is okay for a light kit and such. However during the ceremony it is natural or candle light only for alot of the churches around Atlanta area. Personally it doesn't bother me anyway I don't like it when the flash is going off during a wedding anyways. I hate editing a video and you see people sitting in the congregation with their little instimatics flashing away. Even some photographers around here do it also. I think it can take away from the mood of the ceremony and it is a distraction in the video.
I am just picky I guess.

chris,
have you had a chance to compare that lens (tamron xi di 2.8f 28-75mm lens) directly with the Canon Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Autofocus Lens. This is my next lens purchase as of right now. However at $1600 if I can find something just as good for less I am on it. I am sure that the tameron as good as it is could compare to this particular canon lense.

the canon will be UBBER heavy.
Also putting all your eggs in one basket is a no no.

If ANYTHING go this route

buy the canon 16-35mm 2.8 L lens for 1300 new or about 600 used.
buy the tamron 28-75mm 2.8 lens for 330 which is a killer lens, Ive been doing tons of model work with it and it is crystal clear sharpe. the lens is highly rated in photog forums too.
then buy a 80 to 200mm lens even the 3.5 to 5.6 canon lens which is about 600 usd i think. In the future if it pays off then you can upgrade th elarge jump to the big zoom lenses with a 2.8ish f stop. And then you have great backup lenses "just in case"

Wow Chris,

"garbage"...that's a strong statement. I know some pros who shoot some really slick "HIGH" dollar stuff and they use S2's .

Anyway here is the carrot. I think the S2 is a great camera with it's own shortcomings as they all do.
I know the same of the Canon 20d. I really can't say that one surpasses the other in any signifigant way for what i will be doing...Weddings...

I know what they both cost......
But a guy has offered to sell me the following....

Here is what I have:

S2
SB28 flash
28-105 Nikon
28-75 Tamron 2.8
50mm 1.8 Nikon

All are in great shape and have always been kept in the studio, I am
really careful with my stuff.

You could have the lot for 1400.00USD
You can use your visa card, so as you know that provides you a lot of
protection - I know you don't know me.

So thats where I stand.....and that's why I asked the original question..

Thanks,
Al

I ment no offense with the garbage cam comment to you or anyone. BUT knowing the problems my boss has had with his S2 and it not proforming side by side to my Rebel. The S2 has been a nightmare. With the S3...the Nikkon sb-28 and the Metz flash Do not work properly with the s3 now... another flaw. but for 1400 usd especially for the glass you are getting it seems to be a good deal.
