Not really sure what you're looking for. Most sites, galleries, and shopping carts require nothing more than FTP.

Technically, the server doesn't care WHO or WHAT is putting the information up to the server. You could use a telephone as long as it can "ftp" the stuff there. Usually what you see listed by the local sites is the type of operating system THEY are using on THEIR server. Standard OS's include Linux, FreeBSD or Unix, or Microsoft. I don't know that Apple has a server operating system designed for web hosting. It shouldn't really matter, though. The only time it matters is when you want to use some sort of scripting or dynamic page mechanisms in your web design that may require SQL extensions, some proprietary Microsoft technology, cgi or perl scripts, certain e-commerce applications that are only compatible with certain server operating systems, etc...
