How to remove a trash can in 3 easy steps? [photoshop Elements] Can't Post

I'm really new to photoshop so looking for the easiest
way to get rid of a trash can in a picture.

There's a trash can sitting up against a wall that
could use to be removed. I'm thinking to extend
the wall down and extend the floor up would
be the way to go.

What I'm wondering is how you would go about this?
Is the healing brush tool the way to go here? Could
someone give me some hints?

I've messed around with the healing brush a bit.

I selected the healing brush tool.
I Alt+Clicked on the wall. I then ran the
brush over the trash can and the wall
was drawn onto the can but then when
I let up the on the mouse the wall color
kind of blended with the trash can color
for a mix of colors when I would have liked
to not have the blending. How do I select
the wall color to cover up the trash can?

Or am I going down the wrong path here?

Hi Brackish,

I removed a trash dumpster and bike from a photo where the bride was walking down the isle.
I used the clone tool and cloned the stuff around it, luckily it was trees on one spot and the other was where the bike was leaning against a building, so that was easy to clone.

Have you tried the clone tool? I think it is the one that looks like a stamp then you select what area you want by holding alt and clicking. I have to go back and forth selecting and stamping, as if you move over too far it starts picking up other areas of the photo.

Try that and see if it works better for you than the healing brush. You can also add the feather a bit I think.. trying to remember, I'm not a photoshop wizz but some stuff I can do.

I just called my wife and asked what she uses, and she told me to tell you the patch tool and clone stamp are her very best friends. With the patch tool you can take an area you want to replace as a selection and drag it to another area of the photo to replace it. She uses the patch tool for the big objects because it also replaces the texture of the photo, and the clone stamp for the smaller stuff

It's a shot just like this:

There's patterning on the linoleum floor and the wall is a solid color.

I'm trying to make it appear that the trash can is not there

at all.

I don't think I need real detailed instructions. If someone could

tell me what particular tools are used and just some

general instruction I think I could figure it out through

trial and error.

If you don't want to spend too much time....
1. Clone Stamp Tool (wall/carpet; from both sides)
2. Blur Too (wall/carpet)
3. Sharpen Tool (wall/carpet)
4. Copy good piece of the baseboard and lay it on top of the trash can (Scew/Distort a bit to match the patern)
5. Use disolve tool on both ends of the molding
6. Adjust Curves to match the shade.

Not perfect but should take you no longer than 15min.

Hope this helps.

Marcin

Well, I guess I've got enough to get me started for now.

Your subject line was very misleading then. I thought you meant the real PS.

Thanks, Tim.

I'm coming along. Just wondering if your wife is a photog?

I found out how to make so this doesn't happen. You uncheck the box on
the top that's called "Aligned" and then you don't have to go back and
keep selecting a new spot to sample. All you do is let your finger
off the left mouse key between each stroke you "paint on" and, when
the Aligned box is unchecked, it always goes back to sample from
the very first spot where you chose the sample from.

So after every stroke - when you let up on the mouse - it jumps back to the
original location you got the sample from.

Darn good Marcin. You have some skills bro.

Photoshop is one advantage I'd have over most videographers turning photogs. I got my Adobe Certified Professional cert over 5 years ago. I know PS better than I do Vegas or FCP. Which is helpfull especially when modern wedding photography is 40% photo skills and 60% Photoshop post-processing. Cool

Thanks G!

P.S. Did we miss the house warming party (the "under new management" one)? What's up?!

yup....thats actually how we met. I was the student assistant in the photo lab in college. We got to talking about going out to the baloon festival for some pictures, and it turned into a date....the rest is history. She absolutely loves photography, and has one of the best eyes for a photo I have ever seen.
