How to touch up digital pictures? Can't Post

Hi everyone

I use Photoshop CS2 and would like some instruction on enhancing digital photos. What are the adjustment/filter you usually use on a regular basis? What are some essential adjustment/correction that I should use which are normally included in your touching up? What is the flow you usually do? I am new to this, please give me some advice:

On most of the photos, I would perform the following:
1. Auto level/contrast
2. Curve
3. Exposure
4. Brightness and contrast if necessary
5. Color filter if I want quick change of feel

If picture is too yellowish, what should I do?

Thanks!

Glenn

Start with what file type you have....

I am now starting most of this in RAW, and hence tweek with Adobe Bridge may be all for individual images which came out alright.

Now, imperfect shote and/or collages for albums are a whole 'nother story.

You can use color balance. Either directly to the photo or as I prefer to do it, as an adjustment layer. Play with the colors until you get the colors you want. The more you practice the better you get.

I have them in RGB.

Should I take monitor calibration into consideration? I want to "preview" what I want to print out.

Thanks,

Glenn

Are you starting with JPEGs then? If so, I used to just help images stand out by enhancing saturation and contrast a bit.... you can also vignette a little to help the center stand out too.
It may need to be tweaked for each image though.

If RAW, the Bridge is best for initial (and maybe final) processing.

As for color matching, you will need to calibrate your monitor first (research Spyder) and your printer/paper combintation (research Printer ICC Profiles, several places provide this for a charge). These two will go a long way in making your images appear on screen the way they look on the paper.
