Huge files for Preserving Old Photo Albums Can't Post

My client has given me three photo albums full of pictures from the very early 20th century and he wants them on disc. Since I cannot remove the photos from the black pages, I scanned the entire page and cropped each in iPhoto. These Tiff files are huge and I cannot burn but about 17-19 photos on to a 700 mb cd-r. There are three books, each one will require about 7 discs, and they want ten copies of each. Is there another file format that I can convert these to inside of the Mac that won't take up so much space? I am using a Mac G4 and a loaded Mac G5 with Tiger Operating system. Also, I have a duplicating system that makes four discs at a time if I do indeed have to deliver 180 to 200 discs to the client.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Razz

I'm not real familiar with a mac but can't you convert them to jpeg? That would be what I would do on a PC.

That's going to be way more than your client will need.
Choose the files in iPhoto (you can select all of them if possible) and go to the Share menu and choose >Export..
Under the File Export tab choose File Format>JPEG at full size.
Then click Export and choose where you want them to go.
You should be able to fit all of the files on one disc easily.

Yeah, get it down to jpeg size. You really dont need that kind of detail for small reproductions. Also when you save the files use high detail instead of max. It ends up a smaller sized file and is virtually undetectable.

Re: [jt53787] Huge files for Preserving Old Photo Albums [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you very much. You said to export them to wherever I needed them. I need them back into iPhoto so I can burn them to disc. Do I need to export them as jpegs to 'somewhere' then load them back into iPhoto? You mean like to my HD or something??
Your help is appreciated since you are saving me from burning 200 disc and possibly only 10.
I have converted them but am losing them in the export and in trying to bring them into another album in iphoto. I hope I am making sense.
Thanks so much,
Razz

Yeah, you will need to export them to somewhere on your hard drive.
An idea is to create a folder on your desktop that you can export them to. Then you can drag that folder onto the iPhoto icon on the dock (application menu) and the photos should start importing.
They should now be in the Last Imported folder and you should be able to go from there!

Let me know if you have any more issue.

Re: [Storm Crow] Huge files for Preserving Old Photo Albums [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks Storm Crow,
I have both Photoshop and PS Elements. My concern would be the time it would take to do all 230 photos. thanks to the above poster, I have converted the photos to Mpeg within iPhoto by exporting them to the desktop then importing them back as the jpegs. Some of the photos are still 2.5 megs but hopefully I can get them all on one disc, or at least two.
Thanks a million.

Razz, thats what actions are for in Photoshop! Just take the whole folder of pictures that you want to convert, make a new folder for the converted pictures to go in too and create an action...Photoshop will convert all of them for you! If that ain't cool I don't know what is! Take a look in the Photoshop of Videography forum here on VU and look at my post about actions.

I really appreciate your help on the iPhoto/tiff question. As I write this, I am burning all 230 photos in jpeg format onto a disc and using only 540MB of space. So, ten copies will be ten discs instead of close to 200 with the tiff format.
thanks again, big time.
