It's here! Can't Post

The shootsac is up for sale now if anyone was wanting one.

I like the look of them and wanted to order one, but was a bit surprised at the nearly $200 price tag for the basic bag. I thought I had read somewhere they were going to start at $80, which I thought was more reasonable. But what do I know?

Here's the link:
http://www.shootsac.com/...IEWPROD&ProdID=4

I'm pretty handy with the sewing machine so I might just make my own padded bag, just enough to hold a couple of extra lenses and a few bits of stuff.

I think you could make a way better bag, at a tiny fraction of the cost, custom fitted to what YOU need it for. I can't find too many tech specs/photos on her website showing the real functionality of the ShootSac....just a ton of freaking fabric swatches. Laugh The bag is a nice idea, but from the looks of it, I'd say it's rather flimsy the way it hang off the shoulder. Reminds me of my $5 Pakistani ammo-pouch. I could be wrong.

Seems like you could make one, and maybe re-inforce the opening, between the the two points where the shoulder strap attaches with an aluminum or wood rod, so it retains it's shape and opening when hanging on your hip. Sew in some nice padding, and maybe some light/flexible plastic panels inside to also help keep it's shape, compartments that YOU personally know you need (including a handgun compartment for Texas people), then cover it with any fashionable fabric you want.

If I see a woman shooting a wedding with a ShootSac, I'm gonna ask her if I can take a look at her "cool" bag, and look inside it. If I see a dude shooting with one, well, I'll take him out to the parking lot and whoop him, and take his lunch money. Laugh

Well, here's my Jessica Claire inspired camera bag.

I made it with three compartments, one big one to hold my lenses, a smaller one for the flash and then a slim pocket at the front to hold cards, money, keys, etc. Even the fong dong fits in there.

Here's my snazzy new bag. You'll have to pardon the finger prints on the mirror through which I took this photo.

It's padded with the quilted stuff that is plastic on the back, so that if anyone spills a drink on it my gear should be somewhat safe.

Yeah, I added up how much the basic bag, the cover I wanted, shipping, customs and then conversion to CDN and got sad. So I went to the fabric store and bought the stuff then came home and made the bag. It wasn't exactly how I pictured it in my head. I think I needed a bigger base at the bottom, but if I get the incling I'll make a new one sometime.

See ... I said it was gonna be 200. Smile

Guess I was hopeful. The basic is 170, the covers ae 50, then shipping, conversion, taxes. ug

Wow! You just made that? That turned out cool! The ShadowSac. Laugh

Thanks. I like the ShadowSac. Maybe I need to make a groovy label for the front that says "ShadowSac". Laugh

I was thinking about the bag last night, now I want to make another one with the base bigger, I also want to make a padded strap - and put a clip on the back that I can clip on my reflector (when it is small and in it's little bag). I'm pretty happy with the waterproof padding inside.

I'm off to an outdoor location photo course today so I'll test out the cam bag.

OOhh I like it! What's the difference between the "Extreme" and the regular "ShadowSac"???

I used it all day today - 10 - 5pm, it worked out great but I want to pull it apart and make it wider on the bottom. I also used the hand strap all day and wondered if my hand would get sore or it would become annoying, but I preferred it to the itchy neck strap.

Hey Shadow

I thought about trying the hand strap, but I sometimes sling the cam on my shoulder - did you miss that at all - having to hold it in your hand at all times w/out the option of slinging it over your shoulder?

Thanks-Jenn

PS LOVE your bag. Wish I was that craftsy.

Re: [Jenn M] It's here! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks re: bag - I pulled the bag apart so I could make the base bigger and put a side pannel on it too.

I used the hand strap from about 10:30 to 5:00 striaght through last weekend. I can't say my hand got sore. The only time I really missed the strap was when I didn't have anywhere to put it down such as the bathroom or if the ground was wet. I ended up putting both the hand strap and the neck strap on the camera.

I got my hand strap from the local camera store, paid about $30 I think. It was a good investment.

:)
