Actually, this one was pretty easy. The other "photog", and I use that term lightly when speaking of her and me, helped a lot with the poses so about 75% of the time I was just shooting. Technically there is a lot wrong with these pictures and with most of the others. I had a couple, not these, that I saw when browsing through the photographs last night that seemed pretty close to just right, but not many. There is a lot to learn about flash! Flash to me is the biggest unknown. The shots that I have posted here were posed by me. It was my idea to have her sit down and I got down to her level. As I said, technically there is a lot wrong with this picture, but I did like the pose and I am sure the family will like the picture regardless of the technical issues. One obvious problem is the shadown on her face. Here the sun is coming in from the right to left in the picture and there is a shadow on the right side of her nose (that's just not natural ) That was because I had my assistant use a gold reflector that I purchased and he was on her left side shining it on her face. In hind sight, better to have had it more in front of her or better yet, for me to learn how to use the reflector! Definitely they were looking for direction which is why I was so glad the woman was there. I talked to her and she said she did some photo work in High School in journalism and apparently she does wedding photos and videos locally in this little town, probably for free. I think she must have been doing it for a while because she definitely had some ideas about how to pose the bride and groom and family. All I did was embelish a bit, try to duplicate some of what I've seen on the boards and I think it made for a good combination. She was friendly and we worked good together, I thought. Without her it would have been much tougher I think. The next time I get a wedding photo gig, I will have to have a list of shots that I want to get. I actually brought a storyboard with me with pictures I liked but I did not get it out. The other thing that I noticed, when shooing a group of people, it's very hard to see all the details that you need to be aware of. In two examples that I can think of, a guy had his coat buttoned but it was spread open on the bottom so that you could see his white shirt and tie at the top and then his white shirt again on the bottom. It looks bad and tacky. (add photoshop here) In another, the other "photog" wanted a big group shot of the entire family at the reception so they all gathered. A lot of the people in the back could not be seen and there is this tall woman right in the front towering over the whole group and it is very distracting.
