Marketing to videographers Can't Post

Hey guys & gals ...

I know that some or most of you are still providing video as well as photography, so this might not appeal to you. For myself ... I prefer not to do wedding videos and I'm currently only shooting by referrals ... don't even have any mention of video on my website. However, this evening I thought of something that might work for you as a photographer ... providing you don't plan on doing video and photography at the same time. If you do then this suggestion is not for you.

Who knows better than us what a videographer goes through during the course of the day. We know that both photography AND video is important to the bride. We also know that without total cooperation the day can be frustrating for the couple, the photographer and the videographer. We've seen it from both sides.

We hear the ravings of photographers about the inconsiderate "vidiots" that get in their way. We hear videographers question why it takes 4 photographers capturing the processional. Now is our chance to take a special place in the market. Granted ... it won't be a huge one ... but I think it does have some potential.

If your sole intent is to do photography ... then market yourself to videographers. Let them know that as a videographer or former videographer, you know what they need to make their day go smooth. You both need to be respectful of each other. Maybe you both need some quality time with the bride and groom. The thing is ... since you know what the other guy needs it's easier (or should be) to get along.

If you live in a larger area ... Chicago, New York, St Louis, Boston, etc ... then there might be a few more weddings out there to be had if you could hook up with a few videographers.

I, unfortunately, live in a rural dumping ground and the idea has very limited potential ... unless I want to spend a lot of time driving. But I can see where this might be a viable marketing idea in some places.

Ok ... that was just a random thought from this evening. Go on about your business.

:) Good idea - but not as easy as it seems. I dig out the camera once the other photographer has gone for the night. Suddenly my world becomes the size of the viewfinder. My husband was working the video with me as we were capturing the bouquet toss. I asked him how it went and he said "some annoying photographer kept getting in my way." - that would be me. oops.
