Need advice on pricing Can't Post

Any idea on the hourly going rate for shooting only and delivering photos on DVD? (no copyright)

Some that I've seen has come in anywhere between $150 to $250 per hour with a two hour minimum. I'm sure some of the more established togs get much more than that.

That's basically what we offer ... we don't include albums if that's what you mean and start at $2,000 for 8 hours.
We do basic color correction and cropping on our proofs and deliver them in hi-rez on a data DVD.

I think it depends on your area.

Here most reputable places charge around $1200 - $1800 for the day with no prints. In the city it is higher. Depends on where you live.
Can you go to one of the bridal directories and click to see what others in your area are charging?

I would think a lot would depend on your experience.

Like most jobs where you just start out, you should be
going to the lower end of the scale.

Well, the shoot happened yesterday. I was there for 1.5 hours and charged $200 and shot about 150 pictures. I will produce proofs for her and those are included. There will be additional print orders.

Yeah, I think that sounds very reasonable for both parties.

Out of curiosity ... what type of shoot was it?

I remember Rusty shot a ground breaking for some company
for a couple hours and just had to turn over the images on
CD. I think he made about $200 on that deal.

Then he shot some aviation event at an airport.

It would be alright to get into some of these other jobs
to do during the week so you're not just shooting on the
weekends only.

I guess another question I would have is: Do you think
location scouting is worth the trouble? (Similar I guess to
"Is attending rehearsals worth the trouble?")

Yes, I think it is definitely worth the trouble.. really a must. Unless you have time to just drive around and scout when you are with the talent... Which is what I heard Joshua say he does.

Joshua Smith... at Video 07 he did a presentation called Extreme Bridal Elegance which was pretty much a TTD but pretty cutting edge and had the whole room full of veteran videographers in awe. After the presentation there were questions and when asked about the locations he said he would just put the bride in the car and ride around till he found something that looked interesting.

You know how I heard some people are making money with
their still cam?

They approached some restaurants with the idea.
After the patrons order their food, they come up
and take a picture of them - said to work especially
good with families and couples. Then hand the couple
your business card. Later that night they look at the
pics in your gallery and buy. Some of the restaurants
have it where the patrons can ad the pics onto the
price of the meal and pay for the whole lot when they
are done eating. (I would imagine the restaurant
may get a cut when done this way.)

Well ... seeing as I came up with the idea, I was figuring you
could try it out first and let me know how it goes. Laugh
