Need printing release form Can't Post

Could someone point me to a form, or perhaps share their
own form, which gives the client the right to have their
professional images printed at Walgreens (or the like).

Put the following on letterhead, with the clients name and the date above, then your name and signature below. I also stick this as a PDF file right on their image disk....

"Jeko Imagery (photographer) does hereby authorize our client (named above) to reproduce these image(s) from their event. Jeko understands that the client will use these images to create one or more reproductions and may alter the pixels in the original image(s)."

Thanks, Jeko! Made the form.

You know, I never thought about putting the form
on their CD. Do you think putting it on the disc in a
Microsoft Word .doc file would be okay? I really
don't know how to transfer that to PDF.

Also, what is the best way to give them the images
on the disc? Highest-quality jpeg? Tiff?

I make all my docs in Word and "print" them to PDF to send to customers, using: http://www.cutepdf.com/...s/CutePDF/writer.asp

Works great, and it's free!

Heck, maybe in this case, you could print that "form" on the CD itself using inkjet CD-R's. Then again, so far, I've been backing my digital pictures up on inkjet printable DVD-R, since all I own is a 4gb CF card for my DSLR, so a full card fits on a DVD perfectly.

Go with high quality jpg images. If they're printing images themselves many of the photo places only take jpg images so if you give them tiffs or raw images they'll be calling you back because your disk won't work.
If they're someone who would appreciate the raw or jpg images I am sure they would be wise enough to ask for them.

Just indicate what you are selling on disk in your contract. If it is JPEGs they want, that is what they get (as most do).

Cute PDF is the best freeware PDF generator. It works on any software, as just an alternative printer that you select to create the PDF file. Thus, it is more readily accesible/available than an MS word file would be...

I did it!!!!! That wasn't that hard at all. I did run into one catch with the whole deal though but it was just a minor one. See, you get the program to convert to a PDF by telling your computer that you want to "print the document" and then when the computer asks what printer you want to use, you select the PDF conversion program. For some reason my computer wasn't asking first but was just printing with an actual printer. What I did is go into Control Panel > Printers and Faxes and change the default printer to be the PDF converter, (which shows up in Control Panel as a printer). So, now I've got the idea to make PDF forms that can be emailed for them to fill out and email back. This would save a lot on postage through snail mail. Does anyone know of any free programs that would allow you to set up blank form fields where the client could type in the info on their computer screen?

So, it sounds like I don't even need to bother asking them then. Just go
with high-quality jpegs and it should all be fine.

I did that with my video contracts for a short time, but it was a PITA because I'm always changing my contract. I think I was using one of the basic versions of Acrobat that allowed you to edit PDF's and add form fields, with a "borrowed" key. Tongue Surely there are some freeware programs on cnet or somewhere that will do the same thing.

Now I just email them the regular PDF, have them print it out, and fax or mail it back to me. I also print out a copy and include it with demo DVD's.

Brack,

Only some programs ask for a printer if you click on the "printer" icon on the menu. That is the print shortcut and just sends the file to the default printer.

If you want to manually choose the printer to use, just click on "file -> print" and it should prompt you every time.

How do you get them to email a signed contract?

I still can't figure out how to avoid Snail mail. Mine are in PDF for download to but you still need them to sign an agreement and mail it back. In turn, you sign it and "mail" them a copy. Most of my clients can't spell Fax much less own one.

I was thinking about eliminating that last envelope by just scanning the signed agreement and emailing it to them but there's probably something wrong with that idea.

I know. I've thought about that, too. I guess the using the PDFs with blanks for them to fill in on the computer would only work with forms that don't require a signature. About fax ... I don't have one, either. Maybe about 1-3 times per year I get asked by clients or vendors if I have fax. For that little amount of use it doesn't seem worth the trouble.

How are you making your PDFs? A couple years back I vaguely recall that it was discussed on VU that there is a better alternative to getting a fax machine. It has to do with ... you give them your "fax number" which is really a third party internet company. Then, this third party emails you the fax. At least I think that's how it went. The general advice was that you really are better off not getting in an actual fax machine these days.

Some phone companies have that service. They fax it to a number, and it converts it to an email and forwards it to you. I have a friend that used to have that service and he used it a lot. I think you can send email back out the same way - fax from email to fax machine - but I'm not sure.

I tried a free www.efax.com account for a while, but the free account required an out-of-town number (long distance). And when people sent me contracts via fax, I still had to print them out, sign them, then either scan them for faxing back, email, or snail mail a copy.

For the past couple of years I've just used a cheap Brother plain paper fax, which also makes a good copy machine, and second phone line (has handset), on a dedicated Vonage fax line with it's own number. That way you get all the benefits of an old fashioned fax, as crappy as they are (there's a reason the blasted things won't go away....they're simply convenient compared to screwing with trying to fake FAX on a computer).

Easy PDF Creator. It's $30 but I've been using it long before the freebies came around. There's not much it won't convert and works just like the printer thing you described earlier.

http://www-pdfcreator.com/

I basically only use PDF's so that written documents will look the same on the user's end. I don't actually expect them to print anything but some do. Yeah, they can print my agreement I suppose and mail it to me but I prefer to send it to them myself along with a SASE.

I'm all for faxing but like Rusty says, those built-in PC fax modems work like crap most of the time and the majority of folks wouldn't know how to use them anyway. And I don't know more than 2 people that have a dedicated fax machine in their home.

Do you happen to know if Easy PDF Creator can make documents with "interactive form fields", where the client fills in the blanks on their computer?

No it doesn't Brack. But here's a tutorial on how to do it. Not quite sure what else you'd need though. (Maybe Acrobat Pro?)

http://koivi.com/...-fields/tutorial.php

I just email people a "text only" version of what I need to know (like a wedding questionaire for example). I leave room after each question for them to type something. Seems to work out ok.

I ran across this ($29) but it is unclear whether this will create the PDFs where they can fill in the blanks on their computer: http://www.cutepdf.com/...s/CutePDF/Filler.asp
