Need to find a scanner Can't Post

My wife just got a project from her boss at work. They have a reunion coming up of past patients in their NICU and she wants my wife to scan over 1500 pictures, and make a 2 hour slideshow in about 2 weeks. Needless to say she was excited about doing the job, and the impression it could make on her boss, but This will be hell on earth to get that many pictures scanned. Do any of the scanner manufacturers make an auto feeder for pictures where she could put 5-50 pics at a time on the scanner and walk away? or is there another solution I am not thinking of?

Tim I haven't played with scanners in years but they made automatic feeder add-ons years ago so they still must. I always had best luck with HP scanners. You're not going to do 1500 pictures manually I hope. Never get it done in time.

edit: I should add that I do scanning with my cameras. If you can't procure an affordable auto feeder you could shoot them beside a bright window far quicker than scanning them and get acceptable results, even without proper training. Make sure the camera is perpendicular and square to the image. Use a polariser and tripod if ya have'em. Takes a bit of set up time but it would go fairly quickly after that. Hope this helps and best of luck meeting the deadline.

Here's a complete assembly from Epson. Looks like exactly what you need ... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/...0_Photo_Flatbed.html

The only problem with feeders is: If the photos are not the same size, the feeder may not take them. If the photos are in poor condition the feeder might not take them. But you can sure check/try.

Excellent points. I've never used an auto feeder for photos in my entire life so maybe I should shut up now. Blush

I think this could work......all the photos are 4X6 and are in pretty decent shape, so we definitely lucked out. Thanks for the help! I didnt know the ADF would take pictures at all, otherwise I would have just got that when we purchased a new scanner 3 months ago. Oh well....Thanks a ton for the help!

I never used one, but shopped for one for quite a while, looked at various models, and looked at a lot of reports and decided it wouldn't work for what I needed. If the photos are a standard size then they work good. The quality is not supposed to be as good as a flat bed scanner because the sheet is moving over the sensor, but it isn't supposed to be enough difference to notice on a print really, and especially not on a tv screen.

I'm not familiar with the auto feed scanner... so my vote would be the camera on a tripod... it would be a lot faster then any scanner. And with that number of photos, you want to be able to cut as many seconds off the process as you can. If you could tether the camera to your pc, that is just another place to save some time.
