New Canon 5D !!! Can't Post

It's not a rumor!

Check out the new Canon 5D!

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/...39&modelid=11933

It's supposed to be out in October 2005. 8.2 MP Full Frame CMOS and it's supposed to sell for something like 3000-3500 I've heard.

DPReview has the initial specs out on it too. It's more in depth than what the Canon site has, but they say right up front that all info was provided by Canon and that they don't actually have one in their hands.

Sounds great.

Full frame and actually 12 MegaPixel should alleviate my grips about not having sufficient wide-angle on the 20D.

Sony VX2100's, iRivers, M-audio 24/96, Canon 5Ds/20Ds (and too much glass), Vegas6, PhotoShop CS3, Lightroom, etc.

12.8 megapixels to be exact. Agreed that it would be great to have one of these with some of the latest zoom lenses, so you can get a nice wide angle to medium telephoto range at decent f-stops.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about it too. Before they came out with this, the next best thing was the mark IIds or whatever it's called. 16 MP is great, but for 7 grand or so, it's out of my range for now. It hurts just to say 7 grand.......OUCH! Unsure

As long as you don't have all "S" series glass, you are ok. Canon says that this one IS NOT going to be compatible with the EF-S series lenses, but all EF are ok. Some people are saying that the EF-S are too long and they will hit the mirror when you release the shutter, but I don't know this for sure.

You think the price of 20d's will go through the floor now?

I don't see why it would. These cameras are not in the same class. And certainly not in the same price range. You could buy 2 Canon 20d's for the price of one of these.

Hi Al,

I don’t think they will either, but it will be interesting to find out how much 20D sales fall, if they do at all.

We have A BUNCH of photographers shooting 10 and 20 D’s with “L” glass around here for a primary. Only a handful has the big bad 16 MP monsters. They just couldn’t afford it. I wonder if the ones who are about to upgrade or get another one will skip over the 20D ?? You gotta admit, if you are an established photographer that already owns a slew of “L” series primes, that’s not too big a shot in the wallet considering it will go full frame and have a nice jump in pixels too.

The one I talk to most says she has been buying all the fastest, best glass and waiting to be able to afford a camera that will get her out of the 1.6 crop. I bet she’s in line at the camera store already.

I'm about to spring for the 20D with the Metz 54mz3, and the extra battery grip.

I need to get a good walkaround lens for weddings to start with.

Ii don't know hat that should be though.

I'm doing the same, with a different flash. The general recommendation for a zoom on the photo forums seems to be the Canon 24-70 f2.8L.......and by a large margin too.

Try out the 17-85 Canon. I use it for just about everything...

My wife and I are using a Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5. It's a bit heavy for her and the wide angle isn't quite as wide as I'd like, but it was the best compromise I could find between zoom range, maximum aperture and weight at a reasonable price. Another one I considered was the Sigma 18-200mm DC series lens, because that's a heck of a zoom range.

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all.asp Just be carefull with some of the 'one size fits all' zooms. Even though some phenominal zoom ranges are available be aware of any distortions (concave and barrel) that can really torque things that are supposed to be straight. Like do a try before you buy type thing. A brick or cinder block wall will work just fine for a distortion test. WLR
