Your stuff is really good... hard to believe that you guys are "new" at this photography thing. Looks like you've be doing this for years...
You've been doing your homework and it shows.

Great shots..
Thanks for posting

Brian & Jenn ... great stuff. Good balance of the ambient and fill flash and nice colors.

If you're not already I would guess that next year will be your real breakout year when it comes to photography. I found that it doesn't take near as long to get the business up and running for photos as it did video. Then again ... I don't compete with a million other photographers. Crazy

Keep us posted on your success.

Nice stuff Jenn.. I really liked them... You are doing really professional work there, good by anyone standards. I am really hoping to jumpstart my photography career in 2008.. I plan on offering photography at the bridal show in January. I am hoping to have some nice images for my portfolio after my workshop in a couple of weeks with David Beckstead.

Hi, Shane.

Just wondering if you'll also be offering video at the January show?

Thanks. That's a great opportunity to shoot at a workshop. Free engagement shoots are the way to jump start it. We were fortunate to get some interest in this and we got lucky with a bunch of attractive couples and loading the blog up with samples. The most challenging thing for us though has been getting decent wedding samples. These pics were from November 3rd and it was chilly up here. Bride didn't want to go outside at all and was pretty blunt about it but we had to be a little persistant because we knew she'd appreciate the shots later on and we knew we needed decent stuff to show. The first 2 albums we ordered as samples are weddings we shot for another company doing the photography and the owners requested we use the work for in-studio only. The other two albums have errors made by the album company ... one we sent back because it fell apart and the other messed up the cover pic. So, we're well aware of getting good samples. We know what we can do and we found about 20 brides for 2008 that trust our photography enough to have signed contracts but we still want to get up there in the high end market. Maybe hoping for that in the 2nd year is a bit unrealistic. Wink
The toughest part of doing combos...if that's your intent...is getting the equipment set up and moved around. I knew that would be a challange going into this. Part of the problem is Jenn doesn't want to part with her monster tripod that she shoots center aisle and a specific monopod - neither which fit into a large suitcase with wheels that I use for all the other tripods and I end up making 2 or 3 trips to the car which has got to stop. The other challenge is that she's now in love with side lighting and wants me to assist her with a pole light and I'm usually busy rounding up gear and taking care of audio...oh and shooting both photo and video. A 3rd person would be ideal but we've yet to find anybody to take the job.

Thanks...I like your shots too...nice exposure and mix of traditional and photojournalistic stuff there. The ring bearer and flower b&w shot is fantastic. Bride's love that stuff.
Jenn researched like a mad woman. She's always had an eye and knew what she was looking for too which cut down the learning curve a great deal. She has a great vision too of what to do (me not so much) I like shooting the journalistic stuff. She would see so much going on while behind the video camera and see the hired photographer strugging to do anything creative while being payed double what we were earning and we finally said enough is enough...we can do this! I'm sure there are a lot of photographers trying to tell couples that we're just videographers...not photographers but now we're getting samples and have booked over twenty weddings so far including photography for 2008.

Thanks...and I can attest that the startup time for Photography compared to Video is no comparison.
Here's just one reason. We shot 3 engagement shoots last week in 3 consecutive days...posted them on an online gallery and then checked the visitors sign ins - over 100 different people have looked at those 3 couples galleries.
Over there to my left, in the video computer...we're working on June weddings and maybe 5 people will see that 6 months after the wedding is over and most friends and family are over the excitement of it anyway. Of course if I got off the VU...maybe I couldn't turn around that video in 5 1/2 months instead but still nobody would care that much.

Thanks...that was straight out of the camera too with just the contrast bumped up a tiny bit. We don't get those type of skies often here in upstate New York and when we saw it we asked a bridesmaid go in and drag the couple outide for a few more shots. It was about 30 degrees.

Jenn still considers our stuff ordinary but she looks at the DWF too much. Hopefully we'll keep getting better.

Really nice stuff! Do you shoot in Jpeg or Raw? How did you get the lighting so nice? did you use a scrim? did you use a flash? on or off camera?

(sorry to ask so many questions...just trying to learn something)

Thanks. We shoot everything Raw and most of those are on camera flash Canon 580 EX and shot with Canon 30D.
The reception shots were both on camera and a Vivitar flash up on a stationary pole.
We've done a lot of practice with exposure compensation to make sure the background is balanced with the subject.

Brian,
I recognize that slide show. What are the steps to embed it into the
blog?

Re: [Laura K] New photo stuff to share [In reply to] Can't Post

Laura,
I'll try to explain it but it's a little complicated. I use iframes to embed it. Only works with Google or blogs that allow embedding ... don't believe WordPress will allow embedding.

code:
<center><iframe src="
http://www.imagesbymoak.com/blog/szczesniak/index.htm" frameborder="0" width="408" height="530">
Your browser does not support IFRAMEs.
The contents of the IFRAME can be viewed <a href="index.html" target="_blank">here</a>.
</iframe></center>

Flash gallery was created in Photoshop but it creates a backdrop page around the images which do not fix into the blog. Iframes basically is a page within a page. So, I have to take the files that Adobe created and open them in an HTML editor and resize the borders and background and change the color to match our chocolate blog color. I then have to create 3 folders on my web server called 'pages' 'thumbnails' and 'images' and copy all the files that Adobe created in the gallery to their respective folder. I'm hosting the gallery and all the images...not the blog.

Hope this helps...not sure how to explain it better in writing.

My flash code for my clips is imbeded into my WordPress blog so I think
I can get those slide shows on there. I just needed to figure out how.
Thanks for the notes! I like making those slide shows in PS, they are
easy.
