Pretty cool!

A lot of features I won't have to concern myself with....I have a feeling it will be WAY out of the range of a practical budget. Laugh

Any guesstimations on what it will cost?

I saw mentioned a guesstimate of street being $4500.

I didn't check out the specs in detail but having
the TWO cf cards was different. Can write one card raw and
one jpeg. Or write the same to both as a failsafe backup.
Or just fill one card and then start writing the next one.

I see they've already got it listed on NikonUSA. Delivering
in November 2007. Also new is a D300. I wonder what
the major changes are there as compared to the D200?

What does the D300 have over the D200?

Very cool. Very interesting. Thanks for posting it Brack! Smile

To clairify, I wasn't dissing the film-sized (I hate the term "full-frame") sensors...I was dissing the people that go around touting their sensor size as the greatest thing since sliced bread. More than half the time these people's pictures suck IMO, so how does full-frame matter? It doesn't of course, and I think that's what I said...'it doesn't matter', not 'who needs it'. I'd bet more than half the time they don't even know technically why their film-sized sensor is better, they simply like owning something called 'full' and dislike the idea of owning something 'not full'. Would you prefer a full cup of coffee Mr. Scala, or a less-than-full one? FULL, of course! Unfortunately this analogy doesn't work with cameras. ....

All of that whining or bragging about "full frame" is still baffling to me. Reading posts on other forums, it's usually the same people predict/insist that new models will need X number more megapixels to suit their needs. Then, these same people post the same old boring pictures of bugs and flowers, their ugly kids......or their cats. Laugh

The D300 looks pretty cool, too. I wonder how much it will be? I wish Olympus would release their way overdue new prosumer body, before I dump any more money on lenses/flashes. My little $400 e-500 does everything I need it to, but I'd like a 2nd body for paying gigs, and a vertical grip would be nice!

It seems to be a running joke on one of the forums when
a new camera comes out: "Get ready for the cat pictures".

If I'm not mistaken, the full frame sinsor (sorry...film sizeWink) allows you to put an image on a bigger sensor and allows you to achieve a shorter DOF with the wider lenses, just because of the crop factor. But, I haven't seen people having problems with their 1.5 and 1.6 sensors, though.

I suppose you think anyone not shooting with a Nikon is not a professional. Wink

But, no, no plans to switch to Nikon. But on some other forums there is
a lot of talk among Canonites that they are considering switching over.

That new cam that Canon just released - 1D mk3 was talked about here
previously - has had quite its share of problems. The thing costs $4500
but many have found that it doesn't auto-focus properly. For example,
I just read where a fashion photog did an outdoor shoot with it
and 50% of the shots were out of focus. The cam seems to have
problems especially in either bright light or warm temperatures.
The interesting thing is that Canon doesn't acknowledge the problem
officially. When owners call Canon about the problem and are
looking to send the cam in for repairs they are told to "just hold
onto it for now" because they don't know what is causing the
problem, if it's hardware or software or what. Now is not
a good time to purchase a used 1D mk 3 on ebay, John, if you are
thinking of switching over. Sly

Here is a little video showing more about this new Nikon, where
you can see what the Live Preview feature looks like - video is

That blows my mind. What a huge, unnecessary expense.

And you know what else??? There are a good number of Canonites
asking "What about your loyalty to Canon?" and the switchers
are responding "It's only a tool".
