Olympus 50mm f2 Macro Test Shots Can't Post

Just got the 50mm f2 in, hoping it might be a good portrait lens. I think it's gonna be perfect for portraits! On an Olympus DSLR, its a 100mm 35mm equivalent.

Just pulled it out of the box and snapped these around my crib....

(all images were shot in RAW with an E-500, saved as JPG with no adjustments, and uploaded to SmugMug...)

Interestingly, it still seems to hunt as much...if not more, than my 14-54mm f2.8-3.5, in dim/low contrast situations.

But, I guess when you figure how precise the focus is....jeez....the lens doubles in length when focusing...it looks like a zoom lense! Laugh

$425 at BH http://www.bhphotovideo.com/..._f_2_0_Macro_ED.html

I bought it June 1st, before they had the $50 rebate listed, which is only good for lenses bought starting in June. Boy did I get lucky on that one!

I used the money I had saved for video camera rental for my next two weddings. Laugh I'm so good with my money.

I really like the lens. It makes the pictures look like they were shot with a 35mm SLR or something...something that has been missing in my digital photos so far. I think it's the sharpness and perspective, it must make me relate the pics to old-school amateur "nifty-fifty" 35mm shots...which I like. Cool

I have a little paid photo gig on Friday, so I'm hoping I'll have a chance to take some outside shots with it, if the event is not too busy. Otherwise, I'll just leave the 14-54 on the camera, as it's been a pretty great "general purpose" lens so far, albeit a little short.

That's not a bad price. It does have that 35mm feel. I like the doll and Walgreen's pics, with the shallow DOF.

When I first got my E-500, I was planning on getting a few more lenses, but I kind of lost interest. Maybe after I upgrade my cams, I'll get back into it more.

Looks good Rusty.

Remember to stop down when shooting portraits with a fast lens like that, particularily with two or more people. That's some wicked DOF there, esp on the Bose shot.
