Olympus E-3 Finally Announced Can't Post

About time! They finally officially announced it this week. It's been 4 years since they announced the first/previous e-series Four-Thirds system prosumer DSLR, so it's been a long time coming.

I'm very happy with my consumer level Olympus e-500, but having a bigger, heavier duty, prosumer body with weather sealing and a vertical grip would be nice. On one of the few paid gigs I've done...my e-500 has been rained on(slightly), and the e-500 lacks a vertical grip.

I've lived without LiveView just fine until now, but I'm sure it would turn out to be a great feature, especially with the flip-out LCD.

Same with in-body optical IS..I've lived without it..but I bet that would turn out to be a real plus!

Now I just need to get some jobs to pay for one! Sly MSRP $1699.

I watched the demo at the Olympus link ... the piece regarding
Live View. The oriental girl photog talks about how she
flips the LCD around and uses it to position herself
for self-portraits. Knowing how you seem to shoot
a lot of pics of yourself for your avatars, Live View
would come in handy for you. Smile

That's what we all need...me posting more pictures of myself here! Laugh

Whenever I'm watching a press conference on TV, and see all those photogs holding their cameras way up in the air and just snapping buttloads of pics in the hopes they'll actually capture the subject in one of them, I'm surprised I don't see any with Olympus Live-View cameras. (I think the E-330 had a LiveView LCD that would tilt up or down as well.)

Of course, wedding photogs do the same thing...hold the camera in the air, and just randomly fire off hundreds of pictures. Very professional. Laugh

I heard Olympus just announced a 24-70 (35mm equivalent)
zoom that would be f/2.0! None of the others are doing
that. Wonder what the price will be.

They already have my dream portrait lens....the 35-100mm ED (70-200mm 35mm equiv. on Olympus cams), which is f2 throughout the entire zoom range. It's $2200 at BH, and is what I'll spend my money on before I get another body. Although, I think it would be WAY to big just for carrying around taking casual pics, seems like it would be ideal those that shoot weddings...coupled with the 24-70 f2 on a second body.
