Olympus E-500 website Can't Post

Just ran across this website. It's a huuuge scrolling page with a very extensive user review of this new low-budget DSLR. Reminds me of John Beale's excellent TRV-900 site.

I've had my eye on the E-500 since you posted this, but did you see what they came out with a few days ago....the E-330...it's very tempting!

The EVOLT E-330 is the world's first digital SLR to offer "Live" viewing through the Color LCD, making it easier to compose and capture the perfect shot. This big 2.5" LCD also features HyperCrystalTM technology and is designed with advanced swivel capability so you can capture one dramatic result after another from up top, down low, and everywhere in-between.

I thought digital SLR's all had "live" viewing though the LCD?? Shows what I know!! I might just have to get me one of these when B&H gets'em in stock. Tongue

Are you sure about buying the Olympus? Zuiko lenses are really expensive, and there's not many third-party lenses available.

I find the 4/3 all digital based camera/lens system pretty interesting. Hopefully there will be more and more support for it. Having a standard designed for digital cameras, rather than trying to adapt all sorts of old 35mm film camera lenses to fit digital bodies, is a noble cause. Tongue

There seems to be a nice range of Zuiko lenses. But yeah, the fast ones I want for weddings cost more than a Hyundai.

I went ahead and bought an E-500 package which includes the 14-45mm f3.5/5.6 and 40-150mm f3.5/4.5 and am going to order a E-330 body when they hit the stores. I also got a 50-200mm f2.8/3.5 lens, which I'm hoping will be enough for wedding use...it's my first digital SLR, but it says it's equivalent to a 100mm-400mm 35mm lens, so that gives me a rough idea.

Learning to use a digital SLR is kinda intimidating...I'm used to the crude controls on my 38 year old 35mm. The cost of memory cards really sucks, but I guess I'll be saving a lot of money on film.

I guess now I gotta start shooting weddings to pay for all the new gear, once I get accustomed to it. I'm sure it'll suck all the fun out of taking pictures, just like it did with video. Crazy

Oh, you bought the E-500 for wedding photography? Congratulations on your new purchase, but be sure to use Neat Image or Noise Ninja in post since the Olympus is not very good at high ISOs. (It has more noise than the Sony R1 because of the size of the CCD) Did you also buy an external flash?

BTW, Hyundai no longer makes cheap, sucky cars. Smile

Yeah, the low-light capability is something I'm looking forward to checking out, especially with the cheaper lenses. I'm going to be doing a lot of test shots before I try and shoot in a dark church with it.

I tried to buy the FL-50 flash, but apparently they are getting ready to release a new model. The FL-50 is nowhere to be found for purchase! Of course, the real test will be the churches...no flash...and being stuck shooting from the balconey the whole ceremony at full zoom. Shocked

I REALLY like the Hyundai Tiburon...but couldn't fit half of my wedding video kit in it, and figured my violent driving skills and the condition of the streets here in the city would destroy the car withing days. Maybe some day. I'll take a black one, please. Tongue
