Passwording a photo gallery built in CS2 Can't Post

I have this question posted in the Adobe Photoshop for Video forum and thought I would post it here also, since it is photography based.

Is it possible to create a password protected gallery in CS2?
I am doing some photos and want to password protect the galleries so that only parents can view them. I am currently making pdf files and passwording them but I don't like the look of contact sheets and want either and html or flash gallery.

Any Ideas or suggestions?

Thanks Mike R.

how secure do you want this gallery? secure enough so that your average viewer won't see it? or very secure so that it's highly unlikely that anyone without permission will see it?

You'll get different answers depending which you choose. It can be as simple as adding html code like javascript(not very secure) or very complicated by using scripting like php(very secure).

For the average viewers....
I'm sure any security can be breached given enough time & effort. Simple security is all I need.

Thanks

this is really easy to install. Download the following cgi script
http://www.mycgiscripts.com/password-protect.html

1) upload the cgi file to the directory you want protected.
2) chmod it to 755
3) run it to set a username and password

that's pretty much it. anytime someone tries to access any file from that directory that is being protected, they will be asked for a name and password.

Not totally secure or for that fact not secure at all, but probably the most simple....
You can create the page(s) but do not create any links to them from other pages. Email the link directly to the folks you want to see the page(s). Almost like having an unlisted telephone number. If they guess enough times, thay can get to it, but unless they know the exact webaddress, it is unlikely they will get to it.

Before you go looking for a 3rd party script to install on your website...check with your webhost. You might be able to use your web host control panel (if there is one) to create a password protected directory for each gallery that you have up on your website. Many web hosting companies provide this service as part of their hosting package. Then it's all a matter of click the right button on the control panel, choosing the directory, assigning user name and password.
