Color is good on 1, 2, and 6. 3, 4, 5 are a bit flat, and the last three are dark.

It looks like they are "tweakable" because the subject is good.

#4 looks really good with some "levels" adjusted, and I imagine that the last three would look really good with the same adjustment, and a little "contrast" tweak.

Very nice place to be. Looks like Fall turned out well for you this year. Our leaves are all about gone :(

Thanks Postal,
All of those shots are raw images with no tweaking so I appreciate your feedback. Those are my wife and kid and there is only one that we are going to use for greeting cards so it will get a tweak.

Isn't Fall a great time for pictures?

Oh No! One for greeting cards, and YOU aren't in them? Blush

Aren't digital cameras fun, though?

I took our family photo not too long ago (about 3 weeks ago), and I had to take a BUNCH to get one that was acceptable...

And blown up to 16x20 you can see lighting problems :(

I need to put the camera closer so the fill flash can do more work. We were under the trees, so the splotchy light was coming through.

However, it DOES show "US"...kids' attitudes and everything....

Did you use flash on any? Some look as though they would have benefited from it. By lighting the subject in the foreground, in the shade, as in 2, 3 and 5, the image would be more balanced over all and you could expose for the background better, and not blow out the colors. Same thing with the shots on the bench - with some fill flash, you could lower your shutter a bit and pick up more ambient light - they look a tad under-exposed. At least, these are the things I'm learning.

Love the first pic. Too cute!

One thing I noticed with a flash outdoors, though...you have to be REALLY close to the subject (15 feet was too far away when I took my pictures)...

Yes, I understand and I think I would have used the flash had I carried it with me. One thing I fail to do quite often is carry the proper gear with me. At the previous photo shoot, I carried everything with me in the car, but then when I go there, I did not even use my tripod. Which I think would have given me that little extra stability on some of the shots. In this instance, it was my wife, my kid and me going on a hike and carrying my camera to take some pics. The 30D is pretty big to carry around so I left my flash at the car. We hiked about a mile or 2 so it was too far to go back once I realized it would have been nice to have a flash. What I need for that kind of shooting is a backpack.
Saturday I am in an all day nature photography class at the Ocoee Whitewater Center. I am really looking forward to it. The Aquarium here puts on classes regularly for various things and photography is one of them. There will be an instructor and I am really hoping to learn a lot. I will post some pics here of my day. The Ocoee is a beautiful area with lots of water, rapids, rocks, cliffs, wildlife. I think it is going to be great.

Make sure you take your tripod, so you can do some long exposures

The only issue with my tripod is that it is heavy. It is a bogen that I use for my video work so it is pretty sturdy. It would seem that for photography I would not need such bulky legs. Any recommendations?

Cheap and light with a quick release plate.
