Polarizer filters Can't Post

How many of you use a polairzer filter for shooting outdoors?
Did you buy a "linear or circular" type of filter?

Thanks
Heidi

Not for weddings, but I have used polarizers for wildlife and play shooting. They're neat to explore --just attach, point lens at a glare spot (water or window perhaps), and rotate the filter to see the effect.

Use circular polarizers if you can (linear will wreak havoc on auto focus)

Like jeko says, always circular. I used to use a polarizer a lot but I have noticed that my tiffen does take the edge off sharpness, so now I will only use it if I want to bring out the sky or have reflections to deal with. I still have it around with me all the time though.

This is a polarizer shot:

I read that in order to get the best use of the filter, you should be at a 45 degree angle to the sun. It did a nice job reducing the glare on the water. I got a coated one.

Wow, did you get one of those eBay camera+accessory packages that comes with a big pouch of filters? Tongue j/k I've never tried a polarizer, but I guess I could see where the water in that shot could cause you some unwanted glares.

All I have for my digital camera are UV/haze filters on the lenses. I thought maybe any kind of specialty filters might screw with the digital metering or the camera might try to counteract filters or something?

What a colorful shot. I need to get out of the city and go take some pictures....I haven't seen a plant in a couple of weeks. Laugh

The polarizer was really the only filter I ever used waaaay back when I handled the 35mm. I've been itching to use it - glad I finally got the chance. The sun has been so scarce around here this year!

PS - that's the raw image. No processing. I love the look of it.

that's a very nice picture - and I can totally see that a polairzer would be needed there to reduce the glare on the water.

I just ordered one from e-bay so I can't wait to try it out. I also got a reflector and a cable release.

Now I need to make money.
