Primes...are they neccessary? Can't Post

Just curious. What's the point of having a fixed focal length prime if you have more versatile other lenses? Is the optical quality of prime that much more noticable?

primes are not essential with modern zooms but they are useful. The main advantage is that they are fast and sharp. That makes them first choice for shooting inside and portaits. I get some nice bokeh IMO on my 28-100 zoom but on my 50 I get good bokeh and that is the difference that raises a picture from good to excellent. I get all my lenses secondhand and am amazed at how well built the classic lenses are.
