Question about the Canon 30D Can't Post

I recently purchased the Canon 30D and it's a great camera. I also purchased the DVD tutorial and it talked about the manual setting. In this setting you can adjust the shutter and the aperature. The camera has 3 settings on the power switch; Off, On and a line. The tutorial states that when in manual mode you can use the dial located by the shutter button to adjust the shutter speed and the dial located on the back to adjust the aperature. The dial on the back does not work to adjust the aperature unless I move the power switch to the line position. It's no problem but they did not mention this additional switch setting in the tutorial.

It helps if you read the book... the line setting is used to allow the back dial to control the aperature setting. This is used in the advanced mode.

Shane, yes the 20D is the same way. i wish they would have made these cameras so that you could lock it in the line position because sometimes when you are shooting and moving around with your camera hanging down the switch gets moved and then you go to adjust it and it won't adjust and you realize that the switch has gotten bumped to the other positionMad

Re: [Storm Crow] Question about the Canon 30D [In reply to] Can't Post

I will keep that in mind. I spent some time in " Billy Bobs" last night shooting some pictures without a flash. Testing it out. (I am in Fort Worth this week for training) It was pretty low light with a lot of neon. I had a good time and got some pretty nice shots. I understand exposure pretty good and am able to tweak the camera to get a decent shot, I am sure I will get better. What I need to learn is composition, looking for angles, light, interesting shots, etc...

What I couldn't figure out was why make it 2 separate settings. Why not just off and on, period...?
