Resizing photos for DVD slideshow on TV Can't Post

Any tips? Do you have a preset action? How do you typically resize and do you adjust contrast, etc?
I recall reading that too much sharpening can wreak havoc, so we'll skip that final sharpening step for TV images. Any other type of suggestions/advice/instructions?

Brian did a few tests, but they aren't quite what we hoped for so we're wondering if we missed/overlooked something.

OH yeah - editing in CS2, going to run the slideshow using Imaginate.

I created an action for all my resizing in Photoshop.

I just use the Fit Image (File - Automate - Fit Image) tool to resize the longest edge to 600 pixels for example. That way I don't have to worry about horizontal & vertical pictures. After that I run a small un-sharp mask run, usually set to about 80 and that's it.

Jenn ...

You're correct that sharpening can make you want to hit the screen with a bat ... at least sharpening it as you would for a print. I actually ended up putting a very small bit of gaussian blur on a couple of mine to make it work.

I still think you can add some contrast and a few other effects, but just don't get your hopes up about what they're going to look like on a tv monitor.

As for re-sizing ... FCP actually resizes the photos for me when I drop them in the timeline, but that doesn't help if you're not using FCP. Jeff's idea of an action to fit to fill should work if your editing system can't handle it.

I use the "match output" in Vegas to size accordingly. I've actually found that a bit of rotation when panning the image eliminates much of the weird effects. May now need to add a bit of blurr too...
