SOME ADVICE PLEASE! Can't Post

Hi everyone. First time to post on this particular forum. Soon, I'll be starting a videography business (hope hope), and I'm going to offer Photography as an additional service and free with the SUPREME PACKAGE which is video and photos. Euro2995.

The Supreme will have all the bells and whistles imaginabel regarding video. But with photos is there anything you know of that I can add-on? I mean I'm offering 75 colour and/or black and white photos in an Italian Leather Bound album with a cotton draw-string bag and gift box. Any possible extras do you think?

Do you think this is a reasonable price. Also, I'm thinking about using my digital camera and hiring someone for the day to take the photos while I shoot video. Later I'll print out the photos on photographic quality paper. Is this the norm do you know or should I go to a lab? Would it necessarily be better quality at a lab rather than a good Epson printer? Is it dearer? Can anyone provide a good link to a website where I can find cheap but good photo quality paper?

Thanks for the help lads! (and ladies)

Dansen,

Our business does photo and video as well. Possible extras might include engagement session, photo montage, a proof album, parent's albums, negatives on DVD, online gallery (see www.collages.net), etc.

I would definitely have a lab do the photos, especially one that does minor color correction. EUR 2,995 is $3,780 so it sounds good since you are offering the nice Italian Leather Bound album. How many hours of coverage does this Supreme package include?

The Supreme Package is the entire day from top to bottom. there's a package below that that offers limited photo time but no time limit on video (2 cameras). then there's a third pack that is video only for 1195, no time limit. 950 for video only up till 9.30 pm.

what do you mean by engagement session? When you say photo montage, do you mean on the video? I'm using digital so do proofs apply here? and when you say negatives do you mean put all the photos on the dvd aswell?

what are the possible drawbacks of using a lab versus printing them out yourself? any plusses?

cheers

An Engagement Session is when you take pictures of the couple prior to the wedding. These pictures can be included in the Photo Montage. The Photo Montage is a collection of photos from the couples childhood until now and is set to music and put on a DVD. This is usually shown at the rehearsal dinner and/or wedding reception on a TV. You can also create a Photo Montage of the wedding and offer that as an add on.

Yes, proofs apply to digital as well. A Proof Album is just a collection of photographs in a little album that the bride can order pictures from. They can also order their pictures from an online gallery.

Some photographers offer negatives as digital files, some don't. Our clients can either buy their photos from us, or buy the negatives on a CD and have them printed themselves.

Also, another thing you can offer is a Love Story video. This can be done during the Engagement Session if they get one. The Love Story is a video of the bride and groom before the wedding talking about how they met, their first kiss, their future together, etc. This can also be shown at the rehersal dinner or reception.

If your printer prints high quality photos, use it. Mine doesn't. I prefer to use a higher end lab to print the photos. The quality is better than I can print at home.

There are a lot of extras you can include. I hope this gives you some ideas.

$3700 for all day coverage ... both photo and video seems extremely low. I think I would check around within your market and check it out. Remember ... it's not just the time spent on the wedding day. How many people will it take to cover the wedding ... two videographers and two photographers or are you just going one and one? Regardless ... that's a lot of man hours.

Throw in the editing of all the photos and videos for the day and you've got your work cut out for you.

All day coverage for both ... I would start at $5000 and even THAT sounds really low.
