Samples from first photo shoot Can't Post

Last month we did our first combined photo/video shoot. Here are some samples of our flirtation with the "dark side":

Except for the first few photos and the ceremony shots, these were all taken by my 2nd shooter. It was quite hectic doing photography in addition to video. We didn't get many shots of the ceremony as video took precedence (I made sure that the couple were aware of this before the wedding).
It went well though, even though the %&$# videographer got into a couple of shots (look at #43 and #55) Wink

I've seen these before, at least the first ones. Groom has got to loose those Newfie shades.

#25 would have been killer if bride's hand wasn't cut out of the frame. 28 is pretty cute except for those pipes that look like they're goign into her head. I find kid shots look better when you get down to their level, instead of shooting down at them. Knocked one outta the park with 49, though I'd have shot it dutch to get more of the veil and place the heads top-left instead of dead-center. Diagonals are cool.

Nice clean pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

I go back and forth on this one. My gut inclination is to document the kids
the way we normally see them, from up high.

Hi, Alan. Looks like you did a good job getting the outside exposures
down properly. Any tips to pass along on that?

I used fill flash. The Nikon D200/SB-800 combo does a nice job of calculating exposure, so we could usually just aim and shoot. Direct flash was used in most shots. I did use a Gary Fong Lightsphere for the indoor pre-wedding closeups to soften the light, but outdoors on a sunny day it was unecessary. I had some blown out highlights on a few shots, but most images were exposed properly.

I like to think of photography as surreal, not so much real. Much like video is 'real' and film is 'surreal'.

Shooting children low gives us a chance to see them they way they see each other. For a fleeting moment we're kids again.Smile I think it's super-cute.

I think I'm starting to agree. I don't think you take a fantastic picture. You take a GOOD picture, and then you MAKE a fantastic picture out of it. In other words, more than real after the fact.
