Samples on CD Can't Post

I was looking at a photog's site and they said that they'd
mail out a CD if the potential client wanted to
see more of their work than what was on the site.

Anyone doing this? Would this be a CD they pop in the
home computer with just a file of a bunch of images?

What about the thought of mailing out a DVD with a
slide show of images?

Any thoughts?

For the VU photographers, I think this would be a great time to upsell them on a DVD photo montage along with their photography package. I find people love my basic photo montages better than the videos I make. Laugh It's just a matter of getting them to see one. And since they'd be purchasing the photo montage from a photographer, you could charge quadruple what a videographer charges for the same thing. Tongue

If I were a wedding photog, I'd be selling a photo montage with every package. The heck with offering a photo+video package.

I would like to make $4,000 for a photo montage!

So what are you saying you would do here? Offer a
growing-up photo montage as a photography add on?

This is probably a flash gallery file on the disk -- Same as you can build for your website. The client can simply select a photo gallery of a single event and see the images from beginning to end. Don't forget to load up the soothing music too...

Hell no. That's why I'd dump video and become a photographer - just so I wouldn't have to do them. Sly

We actually have more DJ's doing montages than photographers around here. Yeah, they're just simple slide shows with a tune but I guess they figure they're hauling in 3 tons of gear anyway so a projector and screen added to that really doesn't matter. And they do this all for $200.

Brock... although I am not "actively" marketing my wedding photo package, here is what I offer... full day of coverage, all photos in full resolution on DVD or CD, no copyright issues and a photo montage of the highlights... all for $1000

I just do not have enough weddings behind me to produce a sample album.

One thing I think that's neat about the way this company works
who does the "samples on CD" is this.
They have about 4 photogs and on the website each photog
has 20 pics that is their "portfolio". If the client wants to
see more, rather than having to schedule an appointment
and sit down with an album with them you just mail
out a CD.

Sounds like a good approach???

Sounds good to me... I think once I actually get a small portfolio and start marketing myself as a budget wedding photographer, I should be able to supplement my income a bit.

I don't know if it's relevant or not but this company sending out
the CDs was not a "budget" company. Actually, I guess they
were more toward the high end. They had some info listed
about having some of their weddings featured in magazines.
